Jubilee
editThe article cites Queen Victoria's Jubilee as the temporal setting of the novel, but it makes a big difference which jubilee is intended, because her Diamond Jubilee was in 1897, the date of the novel's publication, making it the present day, while her Golden Jubilee was ten years previously, making it a sort of historical novel.
