Location of Llewellyn Park is not in an unincorporated area
editLlewellyn Park is not considered an unincorporated area. It falls completely within the borders of the Township of West Orange and therefore this should be changed to reflect this. If you have any questions about this I suggest you call Mayor John McKeon at (973) 325-4100 or the Township Clerk Nancy O'Hara at (973) 325-4155 and they will verify what I am saying. - Please link to Unincorporated area (New Jersey) to see how this term is defined. It does NOT mean that it is not part of an incorporated municipality. Every square inch of New Jersey is part of one of its 566 municipalities. The article clearly states that it is "within West Orange". The term means that Llewellyn Park is not itself an independent municipality. Alansohn 04:43, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
- First off I am not going to get into any argument or edit wars with you over this, but I would like to point out a few things, First, Under the definitions of the United States Census Bureau Llewellyn Park is not considered and does not qualify as a Census Designated Area. Second, it does not have it's own zip code and finally in the article there are tags that added that currently state This article or section does not adequately cite its references or sources so it should not be used as a point of reference or a point of fact until such time as the sections of that article are properly cited and referenced. - I'm not sure what it is you expect me to do with the article, but if you feel that additional references and sources are needed, you are more than free to add them. All places in New Jersey fall into one of three categories: 1) it's a municipality (Borough, City, Town, Township or Village), e.g. West Orange, New Jersey ; 2) it's a Census-designated place, e.g. Avenel, New Jersey, all of which are also listed as an unincorporated area; 3) it's none of the above, in which case it's defined as an unincorporated area (New Jersey). As Llewellyn Park fails categories 1 and 2, it's an unincorporated area. That is why the article states that "As an unincorporated area it does not have its own municipal government, but operates as part of the Township of West Orange." Llewellyn Park joins 117 other places in New Jersey that also fall into Category:Unincorporated communities in New Jersey. I don't see that any additional clarification is needed to show that it is part of the Township of West Orange, but if you feel it's necessary, you can add it to the article.
- As a member of the governing body of Llewellyn Park, I assure you that Llewellyn Park is not itself "Incorporated". Llewellyn Park is subject to all the laws and regulations of the Township of West Orange (which is incorporated) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Billwesty (talk • contribs) 19:56, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

- I don't know whether Unincorporated area (New Jersey) used to point to something else, but right now it just redirects to Unincorporated area, which, even where it mentions New Jersey, simply points out that New Jersey doesn't have any unincorporated areas. The offending sentence could be changed to "Llewellyn Park is not an incorporated municipality, but operates as...", although this seems redundant, given the preceding sentence. Alternatively, the unique New Jersey definition of "unincorporated area" could be put back somewhere on wikipedia and linked to. (There is a special Township (New Jersey), and an Administrative divisions of New York; perhaps there should be a single page explaining the idiosyncratic use of terms in New Jersey, if there isn't one already.) 69.126.120.242 (talk) 17:16, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
- the reference to "unincorporated are" has been removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Billwesty (talk • contribs) 19:55, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

This is a suggestion for a reference for Llewellyn park wikipedia entry. Someone needs to put it in the article. The Magazine Antiques January 1975 page 142-158, article wriiten by Jane B. Davis - last page of this article lists numerous references for article- which will be of interest to the site writer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Artfornow (talk • contribs) 13:24, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Gated Community
editIn the 1950's I went to school in Short Hills NJ, and some of my classmates commuted to school from Llewellyn Park. I recall it as a safe island not far from a dangerous area. It was a gated community back then, with very cautious guards at the entrances (I think there were two?). I recall a formidable wall, but don't recall how far it went. Even then it all seemed ironic considering the history of relief for escaped slaves. I wonder how it has changed in the last 50 or 60 years. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Maa8722 (talk • contribs) 01:18, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
