This is a very poor article which I will fix when I get time. Adam 14:01, 30 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Labour economic mismangement and following cover up attempt

edit

The current text sounds like a left wing spin. Excuses for economic mismangement. This part needs NPOV not a sympathy for Labour leader.

Beset by economic difficulties at the time and the negative political impact which the Loans Affair conjured, the Whitlam Government was very vulnerable to further assaults on its credibility. Gough Whitlam was prompted to sack Dr. Cairns from his cabinet.

Gerry Karidis

edit

Why is there no mention of Karidis in this article? He was at the center of the affair and played a hilarious and pivotal role travelling the world trying to secure the petrodollars. It would be nice if his involvement was mentioned in some degree, especially in the aftermath when he was called into the senate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.210.93.95 (talk) 02:35, 3 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Chronology

edit

The chronology is confused and incomplete. Australian Constitutional Crisis article implies the Affair occurred before 1974 Election (which I assume is false). In this article, the dates are either not given or out of order (July coming before June). It also implies that the Coalition blocked supply after the resignation of Connor but actually this threat was first raised preceding the 1974 Election. I have tried to correct this and tidy up generally. It still could be improved. There is no information on the "leaking" of the scandal.--Jack Upland 03:16, 18 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Khemlani: Date of death

edit

According to notes I made years ago, he died either on 19 May 1991, or 17 September 1991. Can anyone either prove or disprove either of these dates? JackofOz 12:01, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Khemlani: Nickname

edit

Including his nickname is fine, but whatever other uses the same phrase is used for is outside the scope of this article. Sfaiku (talk) 03:26, 18 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal

edit

I propose that Tirath Khemlani be merged into this article as per WP:BLP1E. --Surturz (talk) 02:17, 1 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. A classic example of two articles which cover the same ground and need to be merged. Peter Ballard (talk) 00:34, 6 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
I've done an initial merge of the articles. Still a lot of clean up to do. --Surturz (talk) 00:44, 7 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
The only bit of info that might be worth keeping from the material I cut was the following: "In 1981, Khemlani was arrested in New York for attempting to sell stolen securities." --Surturz (talk) 00:48, 7 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
This merge was incompletely done. It failed to merge the threads @ Talk:Tirath Khemlani into here, and for all intents and purposes they've since being lost to history as far as the casual reader is concerned. I've salvaged them and inserted them in their correct chronological places above. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 01:52, 28 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Jack, didn't know that needed doing. --Surturz (talk) 02:03, 28 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
