Membership

I can't seem to find a list of members on the website. Does this mean every applicable council is a member? Morwen - Talk 12:19, 4 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

I was going to ask the same question after I was reminded of the LGA by coming across an article on the National Governors Association in the USA. The article says the LGA was set up as part of mid-90s local government reform, but is it a voluntary association or does it have some statutory basis? Do councils opt in, opt out, or have no choice in the matter, being members by definition? 86.136.92.2 02:02, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

No, it is voluntary - Councils opt in, though almost all do so. There is one Council which has chosen not to join (I think it's Bromley Council in London). There's also an ongoing question about the eligibility of large Parish Councils. Weston Super Mare did join at one point. Jdc 09:17, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
