I don't believe that the picutre of nylon lock nuts is appropriate to the text of this article. One of the two is wrong. When I think lock nut I think nylon insert lock nut. So personally I would modify the text of the article but I wish to have conensus before doing so. Dachande (talk) 19:03, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

K-nut

What's a "K-nut"? It's listed here as either a nut with a fixed flanged and an ovalised thread locking action, and also as a captive-washer nut with a lock washer surface. One of these is referenced, but only by a poor source that appears to be a commercial seller called "K Nuts" that sells all sorts of nuts and hardware, without distinguishing any particular type as a K-nut. Renaming of Title "Locknut" to "Loosening Prevention Technology"

I propose that the title "Locknut" Be more generalized so that information about washers, thread-locking fluid etc can be expanded upon. The Article "Locknut" already contains information about other loosening prevention mechanisms that are not nuts. Below is text in the article that shows information that should not be in the article "Locknut" but in a more generalized one. "Locknuts, jam nuts, lock washers, and thread-locking fluid are ways to prevent vibration from loosening a bolted joint." (talk) 7:04, 18 March 2022 (UTC)

Opposed. It needs to be shown that Loosening Prevention Technology or Loosening prevention technology is the common name. Also Thread-locking fluid and Washer (hardware) exist and they should be expanded not here. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 16:52, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

• Oppose. Wikipedia articles should be about one thing, and cohesive. They should not be about three different things, even if they are related. See WP:COMMONNAME and related policies. Conceivably, all these things could be jammed under an even broader umbrella such as bolted joint, but there may be overlap outside the scope of that article that would make it undesirable. There is already a section Bolted joint#Locking mechanisms - expand that, perhaps, and then see if a split seems necessary or desirable. Or not, since it is likely that individual articles will continue to exist and just be introduced from that heading. Redirects are possible from other titles to that section, although I don't see a lot of demand for them in the form of places in WP articles that would wikilink to them.
