2008-09 Winner

edit

I have changed the 2008-09 winner from "Tie" to "Texas A&M". I understand that the 2008-2009 was a tie in points, but the rules clearly state that in the event of a tie the winner from the previous season shall be declared the winner for the current season. Having "Tie" as the official entry for 2008-09 implies both/neither schools won that year, and while they did both score the same number of points, by the rules Texas A&M IS the winner for 2008-09 and should be recognized as such. I think after enough history has built up for this series and its article, it would be appropriate to note the 2008-09 season as the very first time a team won by the tie breaker rule in a section which talked about significant LSS seasons. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.151.155.211 (talk) 17:45, 1 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

A great photo

edit

I came across a photo today of a T-shirt showing Aggies' support for the Longhorns upon the occasion of the 2006 Rose Bowl.[1] Thank you Aggies! Johntex\talk 02:54, 26 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I assure you those shirts sold horribly...I find it funny though that the company that is being sued by UT for the "saw 'em off" gear also made a version of that shirt. I guess some people will do anything for a dollar. -Texink 04:30, 26 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Some aggies really like that shirt. Here's one wearning that shirt at the baseball game last year :) Corpx 19:42, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Some Aggies aren't Aggies at all. :) -Texink[talk] 21:47, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
2%ers :) Corpx 04:57, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
I have seen several shirts like that. boy has old army died :-(. btw, this isn't texags. bring the discussion elsewhere. Oldag07 13:39, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've seen bumper stickers, etc that say something like "My favorite two teams are Texas and whoever is playing Texas a&m", but I don't agree with that. I support: UT first, any other Big 12 state of Texas school second, any Big 12 team third, any non-conference Texas team fourth, and finally, anyone who is playing Notre Dame.  ;-) Johntex\talk 02:10, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rivalry definition

edit

Will we consider this page the official University of Texas / Texas A&M University rivalry page. Is the lonestar showdown only a part of the larger rivalry? Thus the need for a new page for the rivalry? what do you think? Oldag07 05:28, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • I think this is sufficient. I think the rivalry mainly exists on the field, which is covered by LSS (and other non-notable events like club level sports). Corpx 20:43, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
    • There is a lot of history in the rivalry. Stealing Reveille, Giving Bevo his name. Bonfire, the Hex Rally, aggies sneaking onto Memorial stadium (back then) and placing grass seed that spelled out A&M. Should that stuff go on this page too? I was neutral when i posted this thread up up, i guess now i am more in favor of making an new rivalry page.

A good source for it too: http://www.amazon.com/Backyard-Brawl-Inside-Blood-Between/dp/1400051118 Oldag07 21:05, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • I think that the non-game stuff (like mascot stealing) is not strictly speaking part of the "Lone Star Showdown". This name has only existed for a few years. So, strictly speaking, even a football game from 10 or 100 years ago should not be under this title. As a practical matter, I support putting info on the rivalry here until there is enough to justify splitting it out into its own article. Johntex\talk 02:12, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
I had a single paragraph on a couple notable events in the rivalry. This article definitely needs to be expanded BIG TIME!!! This is one of the most storied and colorful rivalries in history!!! Americasroof 03:09, 4 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

High importance page

edit

Would it be appropriate set this page to High Importance in regard to the A&M wikiproject since the Battle of the Brazos is already there? Either that or move Battle of the Brazos to Mid level importance to create parity. (I apologize if this is dumb, I am a rook.) Pirates010\talk 17:46, 25 November 2007

Moved BOTB to mid ranking Oldag07 (talk) 03:48, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oklahoma a more important rival

edit

Please remember that this is wikipedia and not a fan-site message board. Unless you can provide a verifiable, reliable, allowable source that shows that the University of Texas considers Oklahoma to be a bigger rival, please don't put it on here. You won't be able to, because it's an opinion, and not a fact.
