Talk:Long Wood Enclosure

Wrong title

The title of this page refers properly to a hill of height 365m, on the flanks of which happen to sit this former enclosure. I'd suggest the title of the article which then follows be changed to accurately reflect the content eg 'Croydon Hill hill-fort' or similar and that the title 'Croydon Hill' be reserved for the natural feature which bears that name. Otherwise it is misleading - I was myself misled in arriving at this page, expecting to find a different article! cheers Geopersona (talk) 19:35, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Interesting. The pastscape reference is about "Longwood" and talks about Longwood enclosure (also known as Long Wood Enclosure, or as Croydon Hill hillslope enclosure). The other specific reference used at Somerset Historic Environment Record is about "The Castles (hillfort), N of Surridge Farm, Bathealton" which is about the wp article Castles Camp. The lat and long on the article point to a different site to those on the Entry of the National Heritage List for England which is titled: Later prehistoric defended enclosure, Long Wood. There is something seriously wrong with this article, but I'm not (yet) sure exactly what it is.— Rod ^talk 20:41, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Exmoor Historic Environment Record has it as "Long Wood Enclosure" so I think renaming this article to that name (and then sorting out the wrong references) is probably the way to go. Would Croydon Hill itself be notable enough for an article?— Rod ^talk 21:00, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Rod, I suspect it would not! Certainly I've no particular interest in developing such an article - my connection just came through wishing to describe the extent of the outcrop of the Hangman Grits/Hangman Sandstone Formation which forms much of the feature. cheers Geopersona (talk) 21:07, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
