Snow and Oberlin College

edit

An anon editor asserted that Lorenzo received his final years of education at Oberlin College, a Congregationalist institution. --making a change from the article's orginal Presbyterian institution. The Wiki Oberlin article indicated the college's founders were Presbyterian. Do we have a source? WBardwin 22:40, 22 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

A second revert on the same information. Oberlin College wiki article lists pair of Presbyterian ministers, John Shipherd and Philo P. Stewart as founders. There is no other mention of religious affiliation in the article. Does anyone have a source for Congregational? -- particularly at the time Snow was a student? WBardwin 02:25, 14 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

found one web site that said: Oberlin Collegiate Institute was founded in Oberlin, Ohio, by liberal Congregationalists in 1833... [1] Anyone else? WBardwin 02:55, 14 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Theophany

edit

Many biographies of Lorenzo Snow mention his theophany in the Salt Lake City temple. Should it be included in this article as well? Their source is usually an Improvement Era article by Lorenzo's son LeRoi Snow.

Passing through the Celestial room and out into the large corridor a glorious manifestation was given President Snow which I relate in the words of his grand-daughter, Allie Young Pond, now the wife of Elder Noah S. Pond, recently president of the Northern States Mission:
"One evening while I was visiting grandpa Snow in his room in the Salt Lake , I remained until the door keepers had gone and the night-watchmen had not yet come in, so grand-pa said he would take me to the main front entrance and let me out that way. He got his bunch of keys from his dresser. After we left his room and while we were still in the large corridor leading into the celestial room, I was walking several steps ahead of grand-pa when he stopped me and said: 'Wait a moment, Allie, I want to tell you something. It was right here that the Lord appeared to me at the time of the death of President Woodruff. He instructed me to go right ahead and reorganize the First Presidency of the Church at once and not wait as had been done after the death of the previous presidents, and that I was to succeed President Woodruff.'
"Then grand-pa came a step nearer and held out his left hand and said: 'He stood right here, about three feet above the floor. It looked as though He stood on a plate of solid gold.'
"Grand-pa told me what a glorious personage the Savior is and described His hands, feet, countenance and beautiful white robes, all of which were of such a glory of whiteness and brightness that he could hardly gaze upon Him.
"Then he came another step nearer and put his right hand on my head and said: 'Now, grand-daughter, I want you to remember that this is the testimony of your grand-father, that he told you with his own lips that he actually saw the Savior, here in the Temple, and talked with Him face to face.'"

I would think that the fact that he claimed to see Christ personally is an important part of his life. I don't think the whole story should be included, and it must be documented. 128.36.139.16 22:13, 9 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

As man now is...

edit

“As man now is, God once was:”

“As God now is, man may be.”

This couplet is one of the things that Lorenzo Snow is known for. Any reason why this shouldn't be in the article? 74s181 (talk) 12:24, 7 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Verification of date source

edit

I'm confused on what would constitute a better source for Sarah Jensen's birth year. Searching around online, you will find many passing comments citing 1854, 1855, and 1856 as the birth year. None of them seem very authoritative. The prior 1856 date wasn't cited at all. It would seem that a photo of the gravestone marker would be very reliable. Only a birth certificate would be more authoritative than that. If findagrave.com isn't good enough, what would be better in this situation? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.2.232.190 (talkcontribs)

Because material at Find a Grave is user contributed, it is not the best source for using at Wikipedia; please see wp:Identifying reliable sources for more information about what resources are considered better sources. -- 208.81.184.4 (talk) 16:29, 19 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ages of his wives at the time Snow married them

edit

If someone has access to reliable information on the ages of his brides, it might be worthwhile to add that to the listing of his nine wives. That information is available on WP for the other early LDS leaders Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. Bob Enyart, Denver KGOV radio host (talk) 19:23, 28 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
