"Who gave the odds of queen?" What does this mean? Someone should fix this. Joshi27 04:36, 6 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Board Position

edit

The King and Queen on both sides are in opposite position to where they'd normally be (queen on own color). Is this correct for Los Alamos chess? TrooperScoop 21:14, 24 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, see e.g. [1]. This is because the position is obtained from standard one by removing bishops and reducing board to a1-a6-f6-f1 squares. Andreas Kaufmann 19:42, 25 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

How does the number of legal positions compare to chess? Has it been solved? Btyner 21:58, 18 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

No, it has not been solved, and won't be for some time. According to my calculations the "Wirth index space" for 6x6 chess has 953,068,026,849,251,983,979,127,533,135 (9.5x10^29) entries. This is smaller than the number of physical positions, but is the effective size of the game since it takes in account board symmetries and other reductions. The comparable figure for regular chess is around 10^45. Johnmkominek 04:11, 28 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

And what is the “Shannon Number” For this 6X6 minichess variation? What is the best way to compute this for this variation?

And I have questions about 5x5 minichess game - like in Chess Attack but less one row in the board and the pawn can’t jump 2 squeres in his first move and therefore with no en passant but there can be a castling like in the regular Chess 8X8 game (as long as the only rook in the game and the king hasn’t moved before that - like in the regular 8X8 Chess game) - how many legel positions are there in this 5X5 minichess variation? And what is the “Shannon Number” for this game? Ram Zaltsman (talk) 14:41, 24 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
