- Comment Now, both of the circuit's official website and MotoGP official website names the circuit as Lusail International Circuit. I think the name change should be discussed again. Apeiro94 (talk) 06:06, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
Losail International Circuit → Lusail International Circuit – MotoGP broadcast and website is using "Lusail" instead of "Losail" this season (source: [23] [24]). The circuit's official website is also using name "Lusail" for its new logo. NFarras (talk) 11:52, 3 March 2022 (UTC)— Relisting. Turnagra (talk) 04:16, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
- Comment The circuit's website (masked in the link above) is https://www.circuitlosail.com/ .
- The website address can be seen in the article External links original upload in 2006 coded as [http://www.circuitlosail.com Official website] and the motogp website entry below it also uses Losail.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 01:21, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
- Comment the WP:CRITERIA makes no mention that the official name should be the article name (just because it is the official name), it is equally precise (where precision is defined by WP:PRECISE) though one could make the argument that using the old name is imprecise (based on the dictionary definition of "imprecise", "lacking exactness and accuracy") as it is no longer the correct name. That being said, I would argue (based on Rocknrollmancer's comment) that there is insufficient evidence that "Lusail" is the new name, rather than simply an alternate name, and there is definitely insufficent evidence provided to suggest that the WP:COMMONAME has changed. SSSB (talk) 12:36, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah, I agree with that and maybe we should wait until this new spelling become more popular (maybe after next year's MotoGP or F1 race). NFarras (talk) 13:52, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
- Further comment I did imagine that this may be a local spelling variation (think Lisboa/Lisbon, Torino/Turin) but looking fairly shallowly (I don't intend to spend exhaustive research on this), the earliest I've seen so far with both varieties is Autosport, 12 January 2015 which indicates that the 'new' local town development would be known as Lusail. Also see the commentary regarding the state sovereign wealth investment at Lusail City: Qatar's Future City. As the world's worst sceptic, I would suggest that MotoGP.com, are paying hommage to the nation's massive wealth by (almost) promoting it as Lusail.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 15:09, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose - Not seeing any evidence that this variant has usurped the long standing WP:COMMONNAME. HumanBodyPiloter5 (talk) 12:43, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose per my comment above and lack of response to it. SSSB (talk) 12:45, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
Losail or Lusail
editSeeing another attempt to refer to Lusail reminded me of a funny story I was told a few months ago. A business traveller confused Genova with Geneva, landed at the airport and then faced a 1,000€ taxi fare to get to the conference.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 14:59, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
Circuit name
editPer official website Lusail International Circuit. Island92 (talk) 18:30, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
Yes, change it. Current name is stupid. 212.164.64.246 (talk) 20:44, 22 October 2023 (UTC)

Losail International Circuit → Lusail International Circuit – Clearly the correct WP:COMMONNAME spelling for the circuit. Sources using the O spelling now in 2024 are much less common than ones using the U, as easily seen in a quick Google News search even when searching with the O spelling. And while WP:OFFICIALNAME remains the guideline, the fact that the U spelling is used by the track itself along with both Formula 1 and Moto GP, the sanctioning bodies of the two biggest events at the track (one of which has been using it for its entire existence) makes it pretty obvious which is the correct spelling. Plus, the article on the city is at Lusail and doesn't even include the O spelling, adding to the idea that the O is just a case of bad anglicization. We should respect the correct local use. oknazevad (talk) 03:26, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- Support – Two years on and it's very very clear. Given this is a minor spelling change it probably should never have been opposed in the first place, in hindsight I really don't see how the arguments from the original discussion hold up. 5225C (talk • contributions) 07:22, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
- Support, it is both the WP:COMMONNAME ([25][26][27]) and the official name of the circuit (Officially used everywhere but the URLFormula1.com).-- Cerebral726 (talk) 13:20, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
