Comparison to Rich

edit

"He is one of the few jazz drummers to be considered a worthy rival for Buddy Rich." - Whose opinion is this? If it's the author's, it shouldn't be in a Wikipedia article. If it's not, the source should be cited. --Prokofiev 11:19, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Regarding the above comment----The entire article (including the comparison to Buddy) bears many similarities to:

http://www.telarc.com/biography/bios.asp?aid=4

and

http://www.drummerworld.com/drummers/Louie_Bellson2.html (which sites the above Telarc bio as its source)

There is an excellent interview online where Louie says essentially the same thing, but perhaps that's not the most supportive source, however this opinion (that Louie is at least AMONG those rivalling Buddy) is widely held (just in my opinion, I don't have the energy to track down more authority at the moment). But, in any case, this is an excellent interview that perhaps could be incorporated (quoted in part) in this article (but, it's late for me at the moment)

Louie or Louis?

edit

I'd always seen his name written as Louis Bellson until I came across this article. Google tells me that Louis Bellson is almost as frequently found as Louie Bellson. This seems to suggest we need to make reference to the 2 different ways his name was spelled. Does anyone know his own preference? -- JackofOz 06:53, 2 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bellson was definitely born in Rock Island, in the Quad Cities -- not Rock Falls. Tempest67 00:54, 29 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

All his Verve LPs up to about 1960 are credited as Louis Bellson

Slingerland National Gene Krupa contest

edit

I cannot find references to this contest that do not reference Bellson. Somehow, beating out 40,000 drummers in this contest, which does not seem to appear in any references other than those discussing Bellson, when he was 17 (1941) seems difficult to believe. Is there a contemporaneous news source of this contest or other supporting documentation which could be cited? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.158.136.64 (talk) 01:36, 1 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
