editIt is my understanding that Louis' father was also called Louis Phélypeaux, so should this page be Louis Phélpeaux II? Medievalist Frenchie (talk) 14:04, 27 September 2022 (UTC)
- Considering the issues around Upper Alsace, I'll ask you @Srnec if you want to move it or not. Medievalist Frenchie (talk) 14:05, 27 September 2022 (UTC)

Moved per survey and discussion below. Subject is called "Louis II" in sources to distinguish him from his father Louis I Phélypeaux de Pontchartrain, [ex.] Thanks and kudos to editors for your input; everyone stay healthy! P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 17:34, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
Louis Phélypeaux, comte de Pontchartrain → Louis II Phélypeaux de Pontchartrain – It is my understanding that Louis' father was also called Louis Phélypeaux de Pontchartrain, so should this page be Louis Phélpeaux II de Pontchartrain?. - I'd go with Louis II Phélypeaux de Pontchartrain per the French Wiki. Srnec (talk) 16:24, 27 September 2022 (UTC)
- That is what I wanted to move to to align with the French Wiki, agreed there. Medievalist Frenchie (talk) 22:30, 27 September 2022 (UTC)
- Strong oppose. Louis Phélypeaux de Pontchartrain is far too well known, and nobody refers to him as "Louis II". He is referred to simply as "Louis". Don't invent disambiguations for common names. There are other ways of disambiguating family members than making up numbers. Walrasiad (talk) 01:36, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
- If you oppose, what would be your recommendation on disambiguating them? Medievalist Frenchie (talk) 03:55, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
- He is the primary topic for this article title, and should not be changed. I would disambiguate his lesser-known father with some other official title or even birthdate, and leave this article be. Check the literature. I've run into the same problem here with Medici family members, where Wiki-editors were making up numerals for all the multitude of Lorenzos, Giulianos, Pieros, etc. whereas the secondary literature actually has standard ways of referring to them that were sufficient disambiguation. Walrasiad (talk) 04:17, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
- You can certainly find Louis II Phélypeaux de Pontchartrain in English RS. Nobody is "making up" this numeral. Srnec (talk) 01:16, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

Dates
editThe dates for the terms of office given in the infobox do not align with the "Biography" section. Can someone verify which dates are correct? Presidentman talk · contribs (Talkback) 20:37, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
