Title of show

edit

Based on the title card pictured with the article, shouldn't the title of the show and article be simply Love Boat: The Next Wave? --Heath 2606:A000:1219:4037:ED6F:3723:C9A1:B00 (talk) 23:20, 20 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: not moved. A slightly bizarre history, and I note that the target has existed (mostly as a redirect, as I said it's quite a history) for many years, so the claim that the IP is creating redlinks that this would fix is... well, bizarre. But it at least seems clear that there is neither any support nor any valid rationale for the proposed move. Andrewa (talk) 09:07, 5 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

The Love Boat: The Next WaveLove Boat: The Next Wave – The title of the show is Love Boat: The Next Wave not The Love Boat: The Next Wave, because it was used in the show and the same from the IMDb website - it instead appears to be an original research addition for some reason other than actual title accuracy. On more than one occasion now, an anonymous IP has gone around Wikipedia actively breaking links to this article by prematurely rewording them to the correct title despite the fact that it makes them redlinks, so I'm submitting this for discussion on their behalf since they likely don't know how to do it themselves - but if this is going to keep happening, then the title needs to be fixed. 110.159.10.127 (talk) 05:30, 28 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Article moved, and explanation

edit

In light of the above, I should probably note that I have moved the article as per the original declined WP:RM request. The reasons are the follow: 1) the show's title card shown at the article (there's clearly no "The" shown in the title), 2) searching "The Next Wave" at the Writer's Guild of America, West Signatory Project database [5] produces "Love Boat: The Next Wave", and 3) searching "Love Boat: The Next Wave" at the U.S. Copyrigth Office database [6] produces the same result (i.e. no "The" in the title). All three of these pretty clearly show that the "official" title, as far as the show's producers and crew were concerned, was "Love Boat: The Next Wave".

In addition, there is also independent sourcing support for the title without the "The": e.g. this LA Times article [7], and this The NY Times article [8] and this obit [9]. Based on this preponderance of evidence, I have moved the article (leaving the redirect at The Love Boat: The Next Wave) – it seems likely that the early reviews of this show (listed in the topic above) went off the name of the original The Love Boat, and appended a "The" on to the title. But it seems clear that it shouldn't have the "The"... --IJBall (contribstalk) 21:13, 28 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
