Love child isn't a synonym for bastard. It is a euphemism Per Wikipedia, a euphemism is the substitution of an agreeable or less offensive expression in place of one that may offend or suggest something unpleasant to the listener;[1] or in the case of doublespeak, to make it less troublesome for the speaker.[citation needed] It also may be a substitution of a description of something or someone rather than the name, to avoid revealing secret, holy, or sacred names to the uninitiated, or to obscure the identity of the subject of a conversation from potential eavesdroppers. Some euphemisms are intended to be funny. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.187.76.235 (talkcontribs) 17:54, 23 July 2008

More Nuanced

edit

My understanding of the term "love-child" has always been not just that the child is born out of wedlock, but that it was the result of a relationship that was external to another relationship more central to one or both of the parties involved, i.e. the child of an affair, extramarital or otherwise. Am I wrong about that? 71.236.253.188 (talk) 17:02, 25 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
