Identify of Libo's wife
editWhen this article was created in November 2011, the parent article already contained the statement His wife was a member of the gens Sulpicius, the family that the Roman Emperor Galba had descended from his paternal side. - see https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Lucius_Scribonius_Libo&oldid=430813310. It then was included in the full Libo article. However, it is unclear where this information was originally sourced from, as there is no source cited.
On investigation there is a 19th century commentary on Tacitus where the link to the gens Sulpicia is mentioned - [1] - the entry for Marcus Scribonius Libo Drusus, stating that Drusus's grandmother was a Sulpicia. If this is in fact correct, then it may reference Libo's wife's family. Certainly Tacitus explicitly states that Drusus's close relative (propinquo suo) was Publius Sulpicius Quirinius - see [2] - Annals 2:30. It may be that this link to the grandmother of Drusus was a 19th century hypothesis that is now obsolete, or perhaps it was completely incorrect at the time. But it doesn't conclusively prove that Libo's wife was a member of the gens Sulpicia as stated in the article. Oatley2112 (talk) 00:06, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
