Secession?

edit

The article currently reads "...apology for the Secession." What Secession? The link goes to an article about secession in general. In this case, it is supposed to mean Sezession, the artistic movement? Poldy Bloom (talk) 00:31, 30 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

This article is almost straight out of 1911 Britannica (see   Chisholm, Hugh, ed. (1911). Encyclopædia Britannica (11th ed.). Cambridge University Press. {{cite encyclopedia}}: Missing or empty |title= (help)). Perhaps another article in eb1911 can be consulted for a clue. Unfortunately it doesn't suggest one. Certainly it wouldn't be the first vague reference found in eb1911. Bob Burkhardt (talk) 15:46, 4 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
I think it means a political party:
"True to his free trade principles he and a number of followers left the National Liberal party and formed the so-called "Secession" [party] in 1880. He was one of the few prominent politicians who consistently maintained the struggle against state socialism on the one hand and democratic socialism on the other. In 1892 be retired from political life and died in 1899. Bamberger was a clear and attractive writer and was a frequent contributor on political and economic questions to the Nation and other periodicals. His most important works are those on the currency, on the French war-indemnity, his criticism of socialism and his apology for the Secession."
