New evidence contradicts reports of in-flight fire

edit

Quote from Aviation Herald [1]:

Lufthansa Cargo said on Jul 30th, that they have no indication of an inflight fire.

GACA's head of the aviation safety department Abel Rahman Bukhari said on Jul 31st, that preliminary investigation results suggest, that there was no inflight fire prior to touch down. The undercarriage of the aircraft was severly damaged in the landing causing the airplane to veer off the runway. The impact caused the fire on board.

The NTSB reported on Jul 31st, that the aircraft "reportedly caught fire after a hard landing at the King Khalid International Airport, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia". --Mareklug talk 14:38, 1 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Rewrote with final report, METAR

edit

I rewrote most of the content citing the final report (also the Aviation Safety Net summary). I removed media speculation about an onboard fire before the crash. The final report does not mention that at all - the crew *did* declare an emergency, but only *after* bouncing the plane. I also added some reference to other incidents/accidents with bouncing MD-11s on landing.

I also removed the METAR code - it didn't offer much explanation for the average reader, even in it's "decoded" form. I just state that weather conditions were good. Whoever wants the exact METAR conditions can easily find them in the cited material. Averell (talk) 09:42, 16 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
