Question about characterization

edit

I'm a total novice to CCP politics, but I came here after considering adding this quote from the Lushan conference to Great Leap Forward.

Before August of last year [1958], my main energies were concentrated on revolution. I am a complete outsider when it comes to economic construction, and I understand nothing about industrial planning. … But comrades, in 1958 and 1959 the main responsibility was mine, and you should take me to task. In the past the responsibility was other peoples' … Who was responsible for the idea of the mass smelting of steel? K'o Ch'ing-Shih or me ? I say it was me. (Footnoted as //Mao Tse-tung, "Speech at the Lushan Conference," 23 July 1959, in Stuart Schram, ed. Chairman Mao talks to the people, 142—43// in the Cambridge History of China, vol 15, p 478)

Strangely it completely contradicts (at least to me) this part of the article:

Mao's speech at Lushan was incredibly passionate and bellicose. He defended himself by saying that he, like all of the great writers, Confucius, Karl Marx, and Lenin had made mistakes and that focusing on them would not help the situation.

Any thoughts?--Carwil (talk) 17:18, 25 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Twelve years after your comment, @Carwil, I have deleted this citation-less characterization. JArthur1984 (talk) 23:15, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Recent move from "Lushan Conference" to "Mountain Lu Conference"

edit

I am not convinced on this page move to "Mountain Lu Conference." I think the article naming criteria weigh in favor of keeping "Lushan Conference." Can the editor who made this move detail the rationale? JArthur1984 (talk) 16:00, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Lushan is a county level city, while this conference was held on a mountain. Before there was no Lushan city, it was formed just in recently years, so it was ok to use either Lushan or mountain lu before. After Lushan city was formed, it is confusing to keep using Lushan here. Gweilo60 (talk) 21:13, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the explanation. JArthur1984 (talk) 03:40, 1 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
