Medal Template

edit

Coaches don't get medals in international competition. I removed this template. Wfredmason (talk) 22:49, 27 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the problem - it was an honest mistake because I am new to Wikipedia. I incorrectly thought that giving proper citation and credit to the article I was referring to would be sufficient (I did not claim to write that article). Anyways, I have redone the temp page without the direct link to the actual article. I only gave a link to the general page. That is ok, right? Again, sorry for the confusion and error.

now is it updated and ok

edit

Here is the ORIGINAL composition of the Lute Olson page, with only a reference to the general website where one could go to get more information. Once again, sorry for the previous error of possible copyright violation. Now this can be the correct version of the Lute Olson page. Thanks.

Uncanny ability to turn potential into professional

edit

Phrasing like this seems a little too praising for an encyclopedia: "...for Olson's uncanny ability to turn potential into professional as his guards routinely make the successful leap to the NBA. Olson's abilities do not end with guards, however..."

Also, it's not really true that his guards "routinely" make the successful leap to the NBA. It's true that several of his guards have gone to the NBA, but it is a still a minority (10%? 20%?) of the total who have played for him.

Haven't made any changes, but the Career totals do not equal the career record. Thetaxmancometh 00:43, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Routine leaps

edit

Starting with Steve Kerr in 1984, every starting PG but Jason Gardner (and perhaps Mustafa Shakur) has played in the NBA. That is pretty routine.

Career totals are incorrect.

edit

Even after correcting the Loss column to equal the sum of the season-by-season losses, the career totals that result from summing wins and losses are incorrect. According to http://www.coachluteolson.com/bio.html, Olson's career record was 761-269 prior to the 2006-2007 season. Arizona went 20-11 that season, and so his career record should be 781-280. The totals part of the season-by-season tables understate his wins by 5, and his losses by 2.

I have updated the table using http://www.coachluteolson.com/images/lute-bio.pdf and the columns accurately sum to 781-280.

No speculation

edit

I reverted the edits speculating about his departure and left the one with the sourced material about ESPN reporting his retirement. I realize everyone likes to be the first guy to break the news on Wikipedia, but let's all play by the rules and wait until it's a done deal. Nothing has been announced as of this moment. All links to azstarnet.com references in this article appear to be dead. Did they do a thorough housecleaning, or did they change the format of the links to articles? Unfortunately, most links in this article are not even proper citations so even the title of the referenced article is not known. Any ideas? Eegorr (talk) 06:23, 22 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Lute Olson is not dead

edit

He did not die in 2005, since he coached at Arizona through 2008. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.3.43.59 (talk) 03:54, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Right you are! Just fixed it. Eegorr (talk) 17:47, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Prove it. Until otherwise proven, Lute is dead. May he rest in peace. 24.148.52.7 (talk) 06:25, 26 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

The first line in this section proves that he didn't die in 2005. The burden of proof should go to proving that he is dead. Which he isn't. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.252.242.11 (talk) 05:52, 2 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
