In the late 1990/early 2000 some 300 appartments have been built at Lysaker. This has been done in order to reestablish housing in the area that up to now has been consisting of office buildings.

Fornebu/Fornebo

edit

This is not a place to push POV on Norwegian language politics. The term "Fornebo" redirects to Fornebu. Standard practice in Norwegian - and you can ask Sylfest Lomheim if you like - is to respect local usage, which is overwhelmingly Fornebo. --Leifern 12:54, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm not expressing POV, the official name is Fornebu. I'd very much like to see documentation for your statement about standard Norwegian practice. If that's true, we have to do a lot of retitling. How about "Skjettve" for "Skiptvedt" and "Hasjlum" for "Haslum"? The form Fornebo is hardly used in writing, a Google search for "Fornebo" returns 9150 hits. Among the first ten are one pointing to the Wikipedia entry, one to the same article on answers.com, two to the Swedish town and one to Odd Fornebo's aqua shop. Three of the reamining articles are in English, so there's only two Norwegian hits out of the first ten that actually refers to the area, exept for yours. Fornebu returns 780,000 hits. Furthermore, Bærum kommune writes Fornebu, except when referring to Fornebo Vel and Fornebo barnehage. The encyclopedia "Store Norske" (2005) doesn't mention the form. And concerning POV, I say Fornebo myself, being a riksmål user born in Høvik. I'm not reverting yet, I'll give you a chance to document your statement. Devanatha 19:53, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
There is no question that the official name is Fornebu, which is why Fornebo redirects to Fornebu. On the other hand, neither is there a question that the people who live there write and say Fornebo, as is reflected in the proper names for the kindergarten, etc., you mention. This has been discussed here: [1]. I am not asking for a phonetic spelling, as per your "Hasjlum" point; I simply think that the spelling that is common in the area be respected. Try getting for example Niels Chr. Geelmuyden, who grew up near me in Lysaker, to write "Fornebu," and you'll get into a big argument. --Leifern 15:53, 5 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
This is an encyclopedia. I strongly believe we should use official spellings, and I fail to understand why that is disrespectful to people preferring non-official spellings. But I really don't want to start an edit war, so I'm not reverting. I'd still like some documentation for your claims, though. Devanatha 22:55, 7 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Standard practice is to use the version that is common among the people who live there. You have found the same references that I have, and it's pretty clear that people in Lysaker, Snarøya, etc., will always say and write Fornebo. I have some serious issues with the way the authorities pushed radical versions of names down the local residents' throats, and it certainly backfired when it came to Trondheim. Please note that I am not insisting that the article about the Fornebo/Fornebu be titled "Fornebo" - this will redirect to Fornebu. I am simply saying that both spellings be allowed in articles. --Leifern 23:59, 7 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

The Lysaker Circle

edit

Frithjof Nansen is not the only famous inhabitant of Lysaker. Several artists and intellectuals living in or visiting the area formed what's referred to as the 'Lysaker Circle' from 1900 and onwards. Among the later inhabitants is historian and Labour politician Halvdan Koht, foreign minister in 1940. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 217.14.8.228 (talk) 13:13, 26 April 2007 (UTC).Reply

I have re-structured and expanded the article considerably. Still needs more inline citations, though.
