Description of DRAGON operation in article

edit

Folks,

The DESCRIPTION section has a lot of inaccuracies. One, the DRAGON is not guided by an IR sight. And two, it is not ejected by a rocket motor from its container.Jackehammond (talk) 05:40, 2 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Firing Position

edit

Why no mention of the sighting/guidance mechanics of the weapon, and why did the firer had to remain in a sitting position while the missile was in flight? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 192.91.171.42 (talk) 20:43, 8 March 2007 (UTC).Reply

the missile goes where the sight is pointed. If you stand up this would move the sightpicture

I think there should be some mention of the fact that this weapon is fired sitting down, as according to these military authorities: - http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m47-dragon.htm - http://www.inetres.com/gp/military/infantry/antiarmor/M47.html --Soundnous (talk) 17:43, 17 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

The weapon can be successfully fired from any stable position. Although sitting was most common as it provided the most maneuverability and stability when tracking a moving target, the prone position (with body almost perpendicular to missile tube) was an option that provided more cover and concealment for the gunner. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.155.211.102 (talk) 07:04, 22 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Crew

edit

Should this be modified? It only took one individual to fire the weapon, but in my experience at least, the typical Dragon team was made up of two individuals, a gunner and an assistant gunner (not unlike a machine gun crew). Ideally, the assistant gunner would provide covering fire for the exposed Dragon gunner, or utilize small arms fire to keep the tank buttoned up until impact. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bernie Brown (talkcontribs) 21:56, 8 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

NOTE> The US Army insisted on keeping the DRAGON over other antitank missiles with longer range like the MILAN (the Marines wanted the MILAN bad but got over ruled by the US Army) because on soldier could parachute out with the clip on guidance unit and a missile container. Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request its removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Super Dragon Does Not exist

edit

Super Dragon was never made, it seems to have been a case of writers with no sources confusing the designation of Dragon III. Don't re-add it to the page without actual sources.--MandolinMagi (talk) 02:23, 20 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
