MD Helicopters history
editThis looks complicated. Trying to get a summary, I found some links on the history of MD Helicopters. Boeing sold helicopter line to RDM and OH-6 Cayuse (see last paragraph) -Fnlayson 22:57, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, it is a little complicated, and given how the company has perfomed before it was sold last year, there's no guarantee it'll be around for much longer. I'm been trying trying to put together pages on the MD 500/600 series, and on the MD Explorer, since they are unique and fairly-susseful lines, but had no articles up to now. In doing do, I needed a company to link to, and Hughes Helicopters just didn't seem appropriate. Most of the company history was covered on the Hughes page, but I felt given the name changes, to McDonnell Douglas in 1985, then to MDH in 1998, there ought to be a separate page with the name. I mainly plan on giving a short history, then a product list, following the basic outline of the Bell article I pasted in.
- Thanks for the links; they'll definitely help. - BillCJ 23:34, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
Good luck. I'd offer to help but would probably mess things up trying. -Fnlayson 16:36, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- We may not always agree, but you've done a good job on other articles, particularly the airliners. Any help at all would be appreciated. I'm better at tweaking existing text than witing sentences from scratch. Take a look at the Introduction in particular, as this is where I usually have to start fresh. Thanks again. - BillCJ 17:59, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Yea, I'll help. I'll have to learn about this company and its products as I go. -Fnlayson 18:50, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Article writing
editI added a lead-in sentence for MDH. The Hughes info really serves as a background so I put that in a Background section. I listed MDH's helicopters under Products. Need to go back and link them. -Fnlayson 18:47, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- Wow, looks good so far. I've been editing the Hughes Helicopters article today, and this one was next on my list. I finished cuttin g back the Hughes Helicopter entry under Hughes Aircraft yesterday, as that division was there only for a few years, and merging that material witht he current HH article, as they both have some different info. I've been working on the MD product articles, so I've added the links.
- I'm planning to cover the McDonnell Douglas Helicopter years in depth here also, since there is no other article that does that in detail, and it still fits in with the name MD, esp as that was what they called their products also. In fact, the McDonnell Douglas article doesn't even mention the accquisition of Hughes Helicopters at all, other than to say the AH-64 was a Hughes design. Thanks again. - BillCJ 19:37, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- This is looking good already. I'm not so sure the AH-64 should be listed here. The McDonnell Douglas article could really use more details. -Fnlayson 03:14, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. I plan on mentioning the helicopter line in the McDonnell Douglas article soon, probably just a couple of sentences about its purchase from Hughes. As long as we cover McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Systems here, which I plan to do, then I feel the Apache should be mentioned, as it "came of age" under MDH. I felt we really didn't need three separate articles (4 if you count Hughes Aircraft) covering one article, but putting Hughes in with the other 2 didn't seem good either: What would you call the article? Hughes/MD Helicopters just didnt seem right, though we could still do it. the Hughes Helicopters article was already there, so I've just tried to exand what was there already.
- If you feel that the MDH history and products should go into the full MDD article, I won't oppose it. To me, this is just a starter article, a place to get somethings together, and see how it looks. - BillCJ 05:14, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
- The current set-up is fine now. Anything on McD Helicopters for 1984-98 can go in the background here and be added to the McDonnell Douglas article. I need to dig through MD Helicopters' web site more for some current information to add to the article. I've only come across customer service type info so far. -Fnlayson 15:13, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
- I haven't found much current info on the company either. But that's the good thing about editing Wikipedia - there's no deadline! - BillCJ 15:54, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
- If you look at the Boeing website...their history pages has quite a bit of information about McDonnell-Douglas, even from before the Boeing/MD merger.
- --Born2flie 13:33, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
- I've looked through those history pages before. That will help some with the McD article. Unfortunately that won't provide current info on the MD Helicopters Inc. -Fnlayson 16:12, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
- Try Rotor & Wing (www.aviationtoday.com/rw/) magazine online. Their archives go back for 3 years.

MDH, inc current info
editThanks for the link Born2flie. I did a search for articles that should be of help. Here's a few: Interview with MDH CEO, May 2006, Rotorcraft Report Dec. 2005, Rotorcraft Report April 2005, & Editor’s Notebook, Dec. 2004. -Fnlayson 17:44, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
References
editI see that the unreferenced tag was already removed. Please read ALL of "How to cite sources" before determining that the article is unsourced or unreferenced. Just because it doesn't meet your personal criteria for a source doesn't mean that the source isn't valid and even correct. WP guidelines even recommend you test the verifiability, edit the article yourself, or tag specific sections or statements ({{cn}} or {{fact}}) rather than tag the whole article as unreferenced. Last but not least, these are all guidelines, not policies or rules, and if you don't consider the effects you may end up disrupting groups of other editors. --Born2flie 16:56, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
AH-64 caption
editI deleted the description below the picture of an AH-64 in an Israeli military museum: the claim that the Apache is the "leading cause of terrorist deaths next to suicide" seemed a bit tasteless and offensive. h27kim 15:43, January 28, 2006 (PST)
- Good. That must have been missed somewhere along the line. -Fnlayson 23:51, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- Frankly I think the whole reference to the Apache including the photo is irrelevant to the article. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE 15:31, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
- Why? - BilCat (talk) 15:46, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
- Because the first sentence says they sold off their COMMERCIAL aircraft business. By default that leaves out the military aircraft. But it's a minor point, and I don't want to drive into anyone else's lane. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE 16:22, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
- From the Lead: "Coverage here includes the company's tenure as McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Systems, a subsidiary of McDonnell Douglas." McDDH produced the Apache, so it is relevant here. It didn't make much sense to have a separate article for McDDH because omuch of it would overlap. - BilCat (talk) 16:58, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Some good pictures of the aircraft type, although whether we should include the AH-64 is a question. Enough history to get a feel for where the company came from and now just need to bring in some of the more recent developments. --Born2flie 03:17, 30 November 2006 (UTC) MoRsE: This company has history, needs extension of that paragraph, also the evolution of certain models could be described briefly |

Will someone please start listing MD Helicopters annual revenue, please?
editMany large corporations listed on Wikipedia seem to have recent annual revenues listed. Will someone please start listing MD Helicopters annual revenue, please? Mikewest (talk) 21:18, 7 May 2016 (UTC)
