I do remember reading about MLS discussing the possibility of having the Cup final at the higher seeds home arena, but never directly to the Shield winner. Unless I'm mistaken, the Sounders' victory in the US Open Cup also gives them a berth in the group stage. Would the fourth spot go to the second runner-up for the Shield or the loser of the Open Cup final?
