RN ship name spelling

edit

There seems some confusion amongst sources as to spelling of RN ship name. Is it: Kilchrennan, Kilchrenan or Kilchernan. Any definitive source? --mervyn (talk) 13:20, 29 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

It is (drumroll please) - Kilchrenan! The only confusion seems to be in the US website which has fluffed the spelling. Definitive source = Colledge, J. J.; Warlow, Ben (2006) [1969]. Ships of the Royal Navy: The Complete Record of all Fighting Ships of the Royal Navy (Rev. ed.). London: Chatham Publishing. ISBN 978-1-86176-281-8., but also see here as well. Her predecessor, of the First World War Kil class was also Kilchrenan. Both were named after a Scottish town or village in common with the other ships of their class, in this case the village of Kilchrenan. Benea (talk) 18:40, 29 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for clarifying - the Norwegian version of the page uses Kilchrennan and the current owner uses Kilchernan! --mervyn (talk) 19:33, 29 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
