Too american?
editLet me explain why I got rid of the following passage (at first I added the "citation needed" tag but my explanation will explain why I changed my mind about that as well):
MTV Europe Music Awards is often criticized as being too American and out of touch with music that is popular in continental Europe. Organizers of the 12th MTV Europe Music Awards 2005, November 3rd in Lisbon, Portugal hoped to change that and give back the European touch to the show.
That's the definition of weasel words. First of all, "often" doesn't mean anything, and even if it was a specific term, "often" wouldn't be the right one because (and I realize i'm nitpicking and exaggerating) that could mean one person says it every day which is far from the implied meaning. The second issue is that there's no standard definition of "too American" and again, it doesn't say who's saying that. So even if it were possible to prove that a significant number of people considered it "too American", the article would still have to specify who those people are, and there would be no guarantee they all meant the same thing by "too American". Furthermore, while I can't imagine anyone taking it personally, that's somewhat offensive to the American population because it presents being American as a bad thing. Again, I doubt anyone would take it personally, but it still not really right. The final issue with this section is the assertion about the organizers in Portugal. First, obviously, there needs to be a source. Second, it has to specify which specific people felt that way and address why that goal is important. Finally, what exactly is "the European touch to the show"?
Now, don't think I go around explaining all my edits with long things like this, but because this has been on the page so long I figured it's more likely someone will come along who will disagree with me. -Unknownwarrior33 00:04, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- Given that (a) the EMAs are understood by most Europeans to be a shameless showcase of American talent aimed at the American audiences, and (b) have little or nothing to do with the actual European music scene, can we then assume that your apparently 'good natured' attempts to clean up this article are simply motivated by the fact that you work for MTV. Yes/No? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.112.14.187 (talk) 06:48, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
I think the point is that its a European Awards show, not an American show, yet most of the nominees are American artists even though there is a massive European music scene and you are being far to sensitive to see it as being offensive.
no, not "european". we were always told- had it drilled into us.... corporate level, as well as on-air branding... Mtv Europe Music Awards. not "european", but "in europe". see? that's the huge back-door that lets the show be hosted by americans & feature so many american acts, with token european-originating content. I spent 17 years at the heart of this beast. duncanrmi (talk) 23:33, 24 April 2016 (UTC)
The biggest?
editAt the EMAs I was told it being the largest music awards show in the world, even surpassing the size of the VMAs and the Grand Prix de l'Eurovision. Can anyone fact this out? --lynX
- VMA's - no way, it is worldwide; Eurovision Song contest - Different category, not comparable. --T2t2 19:28, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
LINKIN PARK'S AWARD STATUS
linkin park won an award for Band of 2007 today (November 1st) so they now have 5 awards putting them in second place behind eminem (just thought i should mention it) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.233.2.176 (talk) 22:24, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

EMA 2007
editBest Russian Act will be announced only tomorrow (November 2). So it's a good idea to keep the Current Template there --Felizdenovo 22:32, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
Scotland is a country
editScotland IS a country, although not an independent political state. The very first line of the Wikipedia article for Scotland states "Scotland (Gaelic: Alba) is a country that is part of the United Kingdom." However the display of the Union Jack in Scotland can be seen as a political statement and is highly contentious, it would be less contovertial to have the Scottish flag. If you replace the Scottish flag with the Union Jack, shouldn't you really replace all the flags of EU nations with the EU flag? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.41.245.11 (talk • contribs) 12:56, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
- The list deals with which sovereign states that have hosted the awards. Since neither England nor Scotland are sovereign states, the list must contain United Kingdom instead. Thanks. --Law Lord (talk) 16:10, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

EMA 1998
editThe 1998 edition was not hosted in the city of Milan, but rather in a nearby comune within the Province of Milan, named Assago. Does anyone have evidence that the show was hosted within the city instead? --82.55.224.1 (talk) 22:12, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
Corporate Sponsored Knowledge
editHow can we flag this page as corporate propaganda? Neither I nor anyone I have heard of have ever watched this showcase of purely American talent, and like the actual 'awards', this entry appears to make it look like Europeans actually do watch it. which is totally in opposed to reality. Saying that, I'm sure the MTV employee editing this page can fabricate some figures to support this 'celebration of nonsense knowledge'. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.115.55.105 (talk) 21:18, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

EMAs 2013
editToday the Dutch newspaper AD (Algemeen Dagblad) announced the EMAs of 2013 will be in Amsterdam, the Ziggo Dome, on the 10th of November. This is the source I found [1]. 84.31.54.224 (talk) 13:17, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

depeche mode
editI used to work for Mtv in europe, & in 2001 I was in frankfurt for the european awards show. DM were one of the acts, as were rammstein, blink-182 & a few others. I was sitting in the production office a little while before the show, dealing with some last-minute satellite bookings, when I heard the production manager having a discussion with one of the Mtv news producers, who wanted to get interviews with DM. she was describing how (at that time) relationships within the band, & particularly between dave gahan & the others, had broken down so badly that "the only time they'll all be together is on stage. don't even think about trying to get them together in one room for interviews. we've had to give them separate dressing-rooms, opposite ends of the venue. they even sent their own individual riders- look.." & she showed us the lists of drink & food for each of the dressing-rooms. different sorts of water, different sorts of beer, different sorts of fruit, different sorts of crackers.... &, yes, I can confirm, having seen it with my own eyes on the printouts from their individual agents, each member of depeche mode had their own personal cheeses.

MTV Europe Music Award → MTV Europe Music Awards – The page was moved three years ago by a sockpuppet without consensus. The American counterpart article, MTV Video Music Awards has the s in it, so this should be moved for consistency as well. D🐶ggy54321 (let's chat!) 02:52, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
- This was proposed at Talk:MTV Video Music Awards#Requested move 24 August 2020, and seemed to have consensus. User:Steel1943 what was the reason MTV Europe Music Award and MTV Pilipinas Music Award were not included in the move result? They aren't individual awards, but award ceremonies. --Gonnym (talk) 11:08, 14 November 2020 (UTC)
- Support per argument above. It seems that all award ceremony needs to move to plural title instead, such as MTV Europe Music Award and MTV Pilipinas Music Award. Someone who have move MTV Video Music Awards article don't realize that two awarding ceremonies also have plural title on that. 36.68.185.109 (talk) 06:46, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
- Support, per nom. Award ceremonies are routinely denoted in the plural. BD2412 T 16:06, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

Award order for yearly articles
editI recently started cleaning up the 2020 MTV Europe Music Awards to bring it in line with other related music awards articles. As per this article, the 4 top awards of the main awards are Best Video, Best Song, Best Artist and Best New in that order so I adjusted the award order in the winners+nominees table to reflect this. However, another editor has been interfering with my changes from the beginning and now keeps reverting my edits, insisting that Best Song should be listed first. I explained in my initial edit summary and in the subsequent summaries after I was reverted multiple times again today that I am simply following the order as noted in this article (the MTV VMAs article also lists its awards in order of the top 4 listed on its main article). But the other editor still insists I am wrong. I do not wish for something as minor as this to turn into in an edit war and told them that if they want to change it they should seek consensus here since they haven't given one good reason why Best Song should be listed first (apart from their own words) but they told me I'm "not the boss" of the page and that if I want to change things I should get consensus instead. I don't believe my adjustments were in the wrong but since they don't want to be reasoned with I am here to ask for assistance. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 14:43, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
- Since 1994 the major award is BEST SONG. In fact in 2003 and 2004 the best song nominees had a special presentation during the show, like the academy awards for Best Picture. The Best Video category was created in 1997. -- Elekimante (talk) 16:14, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
