Award to artist

edit

Hello, I just had a question. Is there an official source which can confirm this award is given to the artist? From what I can imagine, this surely goes only to the choreographer of the music video, right? Idkwtplo (talk) 02:12, 6 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

MTV has never really been transparent about the VMA procedures the way other award shows are (for instance, we rarely find out what the eligibility period is for a given year). So we've often had to rely on more indirect evidence related to your question, such as the nomination and win counts in official press releases -- as certain artists wouldn't reach the numbers MTV lists for them if they weren't also counting the technical awards for them. That said, I did find ONE time where MTV explicitly stated that artists and choreographers were both nominees for the Choreography award, which is this press release from 2005: https://top40-charts.com/news.php?nid=16353&cat=
There may be other sources out there that I'm not familiar with, but given the ways MTV has continued to count nominations and wins in recent VMAs, it seems like it's still the same as in 2005. Hope this helps! Andresg770 (talk) 20:57, 9 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

This helps a lot, thank you so much. Idkwtplo (talk) 00:13, 21 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
