Rumor vs. Fact - Citing Sources
In order to maintain a respectable Wikipedia page for Mac, it is important to remember to cite specifically, rather than editing in material that has been passed around by word-of-mouth. This includes what has been told by staff, students, faculty, and alumni of Mac.
This is to prevent rumors from being spread. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MacPride (talk • contribs) 07:12, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
- I've noticed the problem as well. Some IP address decided to just drop an WP:UNDO on me without explanation, reintroducing a bunch of opinion and also breaking several uncontroversial cleanups in the process. I've now removed several claims with nonspecific citations, and tagged some other citations that don't show the claim when they come up. Seems like strict adherence to WP:PROVEIT will be the key. --Closeapple (talk) 12:38, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
Blanking basic and notable facts
In the past few weeks, a couple Wikipedia accounts and an anonymous IP have seemed to be intent on removing the college's cited enrollment count, and removing that fact that MacMurray received the NCAA "death penalty", having blanked each fact at least twice. Users should be mindful of Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Ownership of articles, and remember that editors do not have permission or authority to conform Wikipedia articles to their own policies instead of Wikipedia's. Even if MacMurray "is removing enrollment data from websites" (as the duplicate edit summaries say), then it (whatever "it" is) will find it has a problem when it attempts the same here. Likewise, attempting to blank MacMurray's tennis program going down in flames from the NCAA death penalty is unlikely to work; being one of the only 5 subjects of the death penalty in NCAA history is about the only thing this college has ever made national news for. The edits claiming it's "old news about a program that no longer exists" (as the duplicate edit summaries say) almost have to be conflict of interest edits; nobody else would have the chutzpah to come up with that the logic that having your program shut down doesn't count because now the program is shut down — it sounds like the old law joke about the kid that kills his parents then says the judge should have mercy on him because he's an orphan. --Closeapple (talk) 02:07, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
