editI expanded this article as well. Judging from the earlier reverts there was some problem with his birthplace. Just a note here then: Masovia has (sadly, I admit) become a part of Poland again in 1526, so Stryjkowski was born in Poland and not in Masovia (as a state). He was born in the geographical region of south-western Masovia though. //Halibutt 04:47, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- i do not have objectiosn here, except maybe polish name of Jurbarkas. But that' just a small problem.--Lokyz 09:39, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
Polish names
editYou might be aware, that Polish language was not very wide used language in Lithuania until the end of XVI th century, so Polish names do not apply here. As for Koeningsberg - calling it Krolewiec is absolute nonsence, because it was not called like that at the time, or would you argue, that it was Polish city, with Poles living and they all did call the city in Polish manner?--Lokyz 13:06, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
And another one thing - Strijkowski did write not Comonwealth's history, but GDL history. Halibutt, you seem a little biased on this topic.--Lokyz 14:53, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- Nope, Królewiec was a Polish fief and was as Polish as Gdańsk or Piła - all three being inhabitted mostly by German, yet subordinate to the Polish crown. Calling Mumbay with it's English name does not suggest it was an English city either.
- As to Stryjkowski's work, he wrote the history of the entire region, not only of Lithuania. Even the mere title of his work shows just that. In loose translation it means Chronicle of Poland, Lithuania, Samogitia, all of Kiev Ruthenia, Muscovy, Severian Ruthenia (...) and various accounts of internal and marital matters in Prussia, Masovia, Pomerania and other lands subordinate to the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy(...). Limiting it to Lithuania would be a serious understatement, don't you think? And you are right, I am biased in this matter. As a sign of good will I shall abandon it for a minute or two and support you if you propose merging of the article on History of Europe with History of Lithuania. How about that? //Halibutt 15:28, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- Did you read Strijkowky's history? It was a GDL nobles project to prove GDL's separateness. Read studies on the subject, and you'll find out.
- As For GDL - it was federal state in commonwealth, not part of Poland.
- Koeningsberg - Krolewiec in English. Wow. Jerzy Washington shoul be next.
- Your bias does not allow you to see historical facts, only things youy would like to be there.--Lokyz 15:32, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- ... Right... Just a note, I did read a large part of his chronicle. And, judging from you comment above, I'm alone in that here. As to Królewiec, note that it was also the name used both by Stryjkowski and his publisher[1]. //Halibutt 20:23, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
