I'm removing the line "In a colony with 1 billion non-reproductive members if you lined up every non-reproductive single file they would stretch about 157 miles." This doesn't add up. A colony with a *billion* non-reproductives each over an inch long? The biomass of the colony would be over 1000 tons? Also, 1 billion inches isn't anything close to 157 miles.

My name is Daniel Ouellette and I am a student taking Behavioral Ecology this semester. I added the behavior section to the M. bellicosus page and have focused on material pertaining to my class, like eusociality and worker castes. I also removed the stub tag.

Hey Daniel, I edited this article for the first assignment by adding information to your introduction and making a few grammatical edits. (Forgot to post to the talk page, apologies.) Overall, I think that the information that you include is good and your writing is clear. Under your section on eusociality, you could include what roles the sterile castes perform in the colony. You describe the worker castes under caste polyethism, but I think it would be worthwhile to your description of how the species is eusocial to include information on how the sterile castes actually add to the overall fitness of the colony. Hey Daniel. I think that this article is very well written. It would need more general information in order to become a good article. It would also be nice to see a couple of pictures. It would be nice for the section on mound building to include a picture. I will try to look for some more information to add to your page. Overall it is great to see that someone has expanded this page. I made some small grammatical edits. Kaijones5245 (talk) 02:55, 20 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

its annoying why macrotermes bellicosus has no easy-to-pronounce/say name it feels like it only has a scientific name and no common names 90.210.113.59 (talk) 17:04, 22 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
