Trivia and goofs

Removed Trivia
===Trivia===
  • The soundtrack song, "Volcano" starts out with the animals chanting and shouting the words, "Jump! Jump! Jump!" However, in the DVD documentary, one says, "We were originally going to have the animals shout, "Jump," but we thought it was too dark and we scrapped it." Later in the song, you hear a background of the real words the animals cried in the motion picture: "Save us, Melman! We love you, Melman!"
  • This was Bernie Mac's last film.
  • The characters were originally going to be a lion, zebra, hippo, and an okapi. Melman was changed to a giraffe to make him a more familiar zoo animal.

Goofs

  • When Alex confesses to Marty when the plane is crash-landing that he broke his iPod, he then says, "The buttons were too small! It made me mad!" Then, when Alex steals the handbag from Nana, he dials a phone without breaking the buttons or getting mad. In the first film, Alex dials 9-1-1 on a public telephone outside of his exhibit. A phone's buttons are about the size of an iPod's.
  • When the group approached the plane, Melman stands off to the side of the stairs. In the next few scenes, when King Julien pushes the four into the plane, Marty and Alex are now inside the plane, and Melman is halfway inside.
  • As the four friends board the plane, Mason is on the right and Phil is sign-languaging to Mason on the left. While the plane wrecks through the savannah ground, Mason is now on the left. This is prooved when he says, "I believe that's checkmate!" Later, right after Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria leave the crashed plane, Mason now wears a tux and Phil wears a top hat. They are still on the sides they were on while the plane crashed.
  • The newspaper Alakay steps on is dated, "1972." However, the World Trade Center II hadn't been built until 1973; this would also put Alex and Marty's age around 35, when in the first film Marty celebrates his 10th birthday.
  • The lions don't eat anything in the film; in the first film, Alex's wild instincts returned and he saw all his friends as steak. However, this is partially explained when, on a bonus feature, we find out that the filmmakers went to Africa and took safaris. On one occasion, one filmmaker takes a look at the lions and zebras so close together and laughs, "These lions look so fake."

I removed the above information (in the collapsed box) from the article because it was nothing but unsourced trivia. So if there is anything relevant that you want to keep find a source for that information before adding it back. Thank You. Gman124 talk 01:53, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Additionally it appears to be original research (such as the comparision about the buttons on the ipod/cell phone]]. The third trivia (the one with the okapi) however is mentioned on the trivia for IMDB, but of course that website is not official either as they hardly bring evidence of the info from an official source. trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 02:52, 18 June 2010 (UTC).

A different section (References to popular culture) has recently appeared on this page now with no sources either.

Possible deletion of this trivia
*"The Twilight Zone" (TV series)

In the first film, when the lemurs are having a meeting in their airplane. At the mention of their enemies "the foosa" they leap into a panic in which one lemur holds up a book entitled "To Serve Lemur" and yells "It's a cook book! It's a cook book!" This is a reference to the episode "To Serve Man". The second in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, is when Alex sees Mort on the wing of the plane tearing wires from it, and yells "Aaaaaah! Gremlin!" a reference to "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet".

In the first film, after Alex's Lady Liberty is scorched and collapses to the ground leaving only the top half standing, Alex drops to his knees, punches the sand, and says, "You maniac! You burned it up! Darn you! Darn you all to heck!" This is a play on Charlton Heston's "Damn you all to hell!" scene. In the second film, Skipper tells Mason the chimpanzee "I'd like to kiss you, monkey man." Mason replies, "Alright, but you're so darned ugly." This is a play on the chimp-woman Zira's (Kim Hunter's) line.

When Alex tells Marty "Lions don't dance," it is possibly a reference to the title of the Warner Bros. animated film Cats Don't Dance.

During the Central Park Zoo opening sequence of Madagascar, snapshots of Alex are shown doing several poses, one of them is "Blue Steel," made famous by the male model comedy, which Ben Stiller directed and starred in.

In the first film, Alex shouts "Shut up, Spalding!" to a basketball with grass for hair and a hand print for a face. This is a reference to Tom Hanks' volleyball character Wilson.

Much of it is also original research and has no verification for these connections. Not all of these references are listed on the IMDB Madagascar trivia page. I have not deleted this section, but it still should be verified. trainfan01 18:03, July 21, 2010 (UTC)

So far, there has ben no improvement on this either. I have now deleted it as well. trainfan01 5:51, July 25, 2010 —Preceding undated comment added 12:51, 25 July 2010 (UTC).

Madagascar 3

i have remove the mention of Victoria Becham as the reference material contains no information on said person. New information should be only added if the is genuine source material on it. 81.129.174.18 (talk) 17:38, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

And now the unsourced blurb about the circus has been removed as well because of the same reason. (have circuses really been that major in Europe to be done for a film?) trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 19:27, 22 June 2010 (UTC).

It has been re-inserted now with the source on ComingSoon.net, but it is copyrighted directly from the source (not counting "On ComingSoon.net, it was rumoured that"). trainfan01 21:39, July 25, 2010 (UTC)

Sorry for accidentially duplicating the edit summaries that I was inserting a second source from. I was trying to fix it up properly. trainfan01 19:05, September 17, 2010 (UTC)

Editing on the table

I have removed the Madagascar 3 row from the characters/actors table since none of the cast that is listed is confirmed anywhere (where on earth is Andre 3000 coming from?). Re-add it only if the cast is sourced somewhere. This edit, however, has messed up the table a bit making the Madagascar section blank and the voice actors spreading into the Christmas Caper section. Feel free to fix this part up since I am new to this and and I can't figure out how to keep the rows proper. trainfan01 19:38, August 9, 2010 (UTC)

Madagascar 3 Article?

Guys, when are we gonna create the actual article for Madagascar 3? Are we just gonna wait till the trailer airs or what? Cause I think an actual article would be a pretty good idea for 2010, even if it does seem early. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.137.239.7 (talk) 20:14, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

The article on this film has been removed twice before (although in the first removal the film had not been confirmed yet). There is not much content for the film yet that warrents it for a seperate article (as you can see in the article since it only consists of a short paragraph). trainfan01 7:58, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

Madagascar 3 soundtrack

Some anonymous user has inserted an entire section on the music for this film even though the film is still 2 years away from release. I just removed this section as the case of this especially since it is completely unsourced speculation. The unregistered user appears to have done similar vandalism before (inserting music sections for unreleased future films).[1] and they were blocked for 2 weeks recently as a result of this.[2] I suggest getting this page semi protected since there have been large amounts of info like this continuosly getting inserted in this article.trainfan01 talk 19:08, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

Only the first movie is set in Madagascar

It is my understanding that only the first movie is set on the island Madagascar, and the entire rest of the series has nothing whatsoever to do with that island. I think this deserves a mention in the first sentence of the section about the first movie. Thoughts?Cromulant (talk) 02:50, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Each film's summary already says where it takes place. Why would we need to duplicate this information? -- Fyrael (talk) 00:39, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
For that matter, every successive flm has a reference to the island itself, let alone all three having "I Like to Move It" as the main theme. Visokor (talk) 06:16, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
Here is what I propose to add: changing the first sentence of the section on the first movie from "Madagascar is a 2005 computer-animated comedy film and the first film in the series" to "Madagascar is a 2005 computer-animated comedy film, the first film in the series, and the only film in the series set on the eponymous island" or something similar. This is not redundant information--where in the article does it explicitly say that only one film is set in Madagascar? Nowhere. That information can be deduced from the descriptions of the individual films, but it's not explicitly there. Moreover, it's not identical information to the settings of the individual films. It is quite a different piece of information, concerning the series as a whole rather than any of the individual films. And I think it is very salient information that a series titled "Madagascar" is, by and large, not about or set on Madagascar at all. In sum: I think it is new, and important information.Cromulant (talk) 17:33, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

4th Movie Release Date

2018? Why can't it be in theaters in late 2015 and the penguins movie can come into theaters in 2018? Most movie franchise sequels come out on the 10th year after the first one then a few more come out, like Ice Age & Shrek. --24.186.148.4 (talk) 01:41, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

Semi-protection edit request on 20 June 2015

Could we please have a {{edit semi-protected}} article — 2601:183:4000:D5BD:8945:B1F0:B4A5:D0AB (talk) 21:54, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

Not done: requests for increases to the page protection level should be made at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 22:20, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

Have this is article protected since other Dreamwork Studios are apparently and this one isn't? — 73.47.37.131 (talk) 15:28, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

Note: It is not protected for two reasons:-
  1. No-one has asked for it to be protected at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection since its previous protection lapsed on 25 february
  2. If someone asked now, it would probably be refused as, looking at the page history, there were only 2 reverts in July and 2 in June, so there is relatively little recent vandalism - Arjayay (talk) 15:45, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

Creating "Category:Madagascar (franchise)".

Seriously. Why can't you people create the "Madagascar (franchise)" category here on Wikipedia. If that category doesn't exist, why not make it exist? --2601:2C0:C100:41C0:883B:D1C0:D594:4929 (talk) 04:44, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

Since you seem willing to post, until such time as the category exists, do not include it in articles. This applies to other non-existent categories as well. As to category creation, not everything requires a category. --AussieLegend () 10:53, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

Averages

I removed the averages from the table. People keep adding these in goodfaith and I understand the impulse to add more but just because you can does not mean you should, they are a case of WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS but not actually good idea. Unlike total earnings, or total budget spending, these averages do not say anything helpful or informative to readers. There is nothing to indicate anyone actually ever thought it through, and that someone added averages simply because they could, and not because they say anything relevant. (This article isn't the worst example but there are other cases where there were significant gaps in the table and the averages were even more meaningless.)

In many franchises the review scores show a declining trend, that might be worth writing about. In other cases the scores stay about the same but that doesn't take into account the positive bias because far less reviewers bother to review a series or franchise as it progresses, and again that is something that might be worth writing about. The averages are an arbitrary calculation, they don't help tell the reader anything about a series, and there's nothing worth writing about. To put it another way the averages simply aren't notable. -- 109.76.207.106 (talk) 14:58, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

I'm saying these fundamentally aren't WP:NOTABLE and shouldn't be included but others have previously argued they are WP:SYNTH
