- Comment: The first edit (already DYK-eligible) was independent of other articles (which would otherwise affect eligibility), but subsequent edits have added information from Lake Street Transfer station that I have duly marked in the summary. Also, while I don't really care who reviews my DYKs, but I think the architectural and urban focus makes this up @Epicgenius:'s alley. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 23:55, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

- No worries @John M Wolfson. I can look at this nomination tomorrow. Epicgenius (talk) 23:31, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
- I see that Epic's already gonna take a look at this, but FWIW I think ALT1 (the hot dog stand hook) is probably the hookiest out of the three as the other two seems more niche and more targeted towards infrastructure buffs. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 02:06, 11 October 2022 (UTC)

Overall: Nice work. I agree with NLH5 above that ALT1 is the best, but all three are acceptable to me. Epicgenius (talk) 13:51, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hey, Epicgenius, there may be some consensus for ALT1 forming, but might I add the following hook to tweak ALT0:
- ALT4: ... that the former station house of Madison station was demolished despite recognition of its historic signifcance?
- I'd slightly prefer it over ALT1, unless there's consenus that hot dogs rule the day. Thanks! – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 20:27, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
- No problem. ALT4 (I think we skipped ALT3 there) also works for me - it's definitely better than ALT0, which says basically the same thing but is more verbose. Epicgenius (talk) 21:56, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
- Ah yes, the off-by-one error! :P – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 22:46, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
- I still have a preference for ALT1 but ALT4 is also okay. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 08:34, 12 October 2022 (UTC)

edit- The order is a bit confusing. Maybe you could talk more about the station istelf and then go on to introduce the history surrounding the companies and Chicago "L" as I think this is a bit less relevant to this specific station. The ordering in the article Western station (CTA Blue Line O'Hare branch) makes more sense, with simple information about the location, opening and layout of the station before the history part.
- Hopefully this works. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 16:58, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
History
edit- I suggest noting that "L" stands for elevated somewhere around the sentence "The Metropolitan, along with the other companies operating "L" lines in Chicago, became a part of the Chicago Elevated Railways (CER) trust on July 1, 1911."
- I don't know where to cite that specifically, especially in the article; my articles on these stations have been criticized for including too much extraneous details as it is. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 16:58, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
- "The subway's approval did not immediately imply the end of the old Logan Square branch". I don't think it was previously explained why the new system would threaten the Logsan Square branch. Perhaps you could include some more geographical explanations of how this new system would replace the old Logan Square branch and why the congestion was particularly problematic on the Logan Square branch.
- I tried to clarify it a little by mentioning bypass. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 16:58, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
- "Despite this status, the station house was demolished in the 1990s" Any reason why this happened?
- I'm afraid not; I would suspect either tax purposes or simply a declining neighborhood no longer supporting the hot dog stand, but that is rather ex culo on my part. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 16:58, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
- I know this is a different article, but at Chicago Stadium, the 'an' should be 'a' in the first sentence. I can't change this myself.

The Chicago Bulls, housed in the United Center, planned to build a $95 million complex in the area based on possible tax breaks. Mayor Rahm Emanuel suggested building a station at Madison to serve the complex; the CTA declined to reopen a station at Madison at that time, but left open the possibility of a future reviva
Do we have dates for these events?- Yes, 2012. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 16:58, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
- How far is the Madison station from the United Center? This could be included in the final paragraph.
- I included a map to judge relative distances of the stations involved. I suspect it's about half a mile at most, but don't have a better source for this. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 16:58, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
Station details
edit- Not too sure what "Queen-Anne influenced with Romanesque features" means. Could be improved with wikilinks.

- Do we know what station is shown in the photo?
- The infobox photo is Madison itself as a hot dog stand. The second photo is just a drawing/engraving of a typical Metropolitan station, produced by the Railway Age when the railroad first opened, and not any specific real station. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 16:58, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
- "for rides outside of Evanston and Wilmette." I don't know about the geography of Chicago, but I assume that the Logan Square branch extended beyond these suburbs. If this is the case, you might want to clarify this, otherwise these details might seem irrelevant for the article.
- This essentially ruled out the modern-day Purple Line, which is unrelated to the Logan Square branch. I've tweaked it to "entirely within city limits". – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 16:58, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
References
edit- p.538 of the Polk directory states that the occupant of 1718 West Madison was Chicago Rapid Transit co. Is there a better way to verify that this is where Madison station is or do we have just have to assume?
- It's safe to assume that this is the station, given the location on a map. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 16:58, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
- A quick check on the other sources and I don't see any issues. Please let me know when you responded to the above queries. Willbb234 16:23, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
