Maeotians aren't ancient pontic greek settlers, obviously.
editIf they were greek, then people from Greece would call them that way, they wouldn't distinguish them so much. They called them barbarians and clearly indicated the difference even between maeotians themselves. For example when they mention Sindi people, they talk about their hellenic culture, but when they talk about others, they don't even mention that.
Maeotians were, probably,just a bunch of mixed tribes (some of them were indo-iranian, some proto-circassian) that lived on the shores of Azov Sea. Elarxux (talk) 23:51, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
