Eric Foner
Eric Foner is not Maggie Gyllenhaal's uncle. He is her mother's ex-husband, and is not related to Maggie at all. The article on her brother, Jake Gyllenhaal, explains this correctly. At first I was just going to delete the Foner reference, but I realize it is an interesting connection -- especially since both Maggie and Jake went to Columbia University, where Foner teaches. I'm not sure how to phrase it without distracting from the article's focus on Maggie, but perhaps someone else will have a go at it. 209.178.163.17 (talk) 01:38, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
Making the article better
Well as you can see iv started expanding the article so its at least as good as Jake`s. Theres sure to be friction if Maggie finds out Jake`s article has featured status and her`s doesnt.Stevenscollege 22:23, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- LOL! That's the best "excuse" to improve an article I've ever read. Keep up the good work Mad Jack 03:12, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Continuation of peer review
Just more prose comments. (More to come later)
- "Gyllenhaal has chosen an eclectic range of roles, from indie films such as Sherrybaby (2006), for which she was also nominated for a Golden Globe, to the romantic comedy Trust the Man (2006) and big-budget studio films such as World Trade Center (2006) and The Dark Knight (2008). Aside from appearing in film, Gyllenhaal has starred in theater productions and had a role in the 2004 television film Strip Search." -> "Gyllenhaal has appeared in an eclectic range of films, including the indie film Sherrybaby (2006) (for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe), the romantic comedy Trust the Man (2006), and big-budget films such as World Trade Center (2006) and The Dark Knight (2008). Some final comments as requested
- I have read through, corrected typos, changed a few words, removed redundancies, etc. You can check the edit summaries to see exactly what I've done.
- Lead: It is still a bit short (just over 200 words), but the article itself is quite short at around 2,000 words, so the lead length is OK. However, I have connected the single-sentence opening paragraph to the next - this is essential.
- I had asked another user to copy-edit the article and he separated the opening paragraph. -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 01:17, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
- Well, from a FAC perspective I strongly advise that you leave the sentences combined, but it's your call. Brianboulton (talk) 10:05, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

- Early life: I wonder whether calling the restaurant she worked at "upscale" might be thought POV?
- Removed. -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 01:17, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
- 2002–05: Wilmington's comment "Gyllenhall conveys with real subtlety" doesn't mean anything. What does she convey? Can you go back to the source and see what he said?
- How 'bout now? -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 01:17, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, fine Brianboulton (talk) 10:05, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

- Personal life: are you sure you want to keep the restaurant fire story in? It is pretty well the only incident in her life that you mention, outside her career and political/civil liberties work, which makes it seem as though it had particular significance. But unless she was hurt, or her career was adversely affected in some way, or there was some other long-term consequence, I'd be inclined to leave it out.
- Well, I saw it in Jake Gyllenhaal's article and I thought it would work in her article as well, but, this really wasn't something that the media talked about, so I removed it. Question: Shouldn't there be any info. that she and Peter Sasgaard are engaged? -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 01:17, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
- The engagement information is valid personal life stuff, and should stay. Brianboulton (talk) 10:05, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

- Same section: the 2004 election and John Kerry are old hat now. The question is, who did she support this time (need I ask?)? If you have sources that she campaigned for Obama, put them in, but references to 2004 and Kerry look very old hat.

- Images: I don't see any sign that an image expert has checked out your images. This can be a minefield at FAC, as I know to my cost.
- I wanted to do that last, but the PR closed, so I'll ask around for a confirmation. -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 01:17, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

When you've thought about these points, and dealt with them as you think necessary, and when your helper has finished, I suggest you try your luck with an FAC nomination. It's a neat little article, could do well. Brianboulton (talk) 19:26, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

- To revisit this briefly, if her legal name is Maggie, why is her "former" name listed as the subject lede? We should use her legal name in the subject bolding portion and point out that it was formerly something else (which is also already done elsewhere). MSJapan (talk) 00:05, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

IPA discrepancy
In this article and the one about Jake Gyllenhaal, their surname is rendered in IPA as /ˈdʒɪlənhɑːl/, but in the article about their father it is /ˈdʒɪlənhɔːl/. Which is correct? Shouldn't they be consistent? --N-k (talk) 22:19, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Image
At the infobox, there is an image of Maggie Gyllenhaal at the 66th Golden Globe Awards on January 11, 2009. This picture is almost a year newer; it was taken at the 82th Academy Awards on March 7, 2010. I think this picture should be at the infobox ...--Renesemee (talk) 17:59, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
an awkwardly placed sentence...
why does a single sentence regarding the article's subject's 'besides acting' work appear at the top of the paragraph about her charity work?? Here is the Heading and sentence in question:
Charity work
Besides acting, she has modeled for Miu Miu[116] Reebok,[117] and Agent Provocateur,[118] and recorded the first unabridged audiobook version of Sylvia Plath's novel The Bell Jar [119].
Wouldn't one final sub-section under the heading Career (prior to the heading Personal Life) be a better place to list this information? Also, you might want to expand on the 'besides acting' work; if NOT with more projects then a little more meat about the projects you've mentioned.

Coverage
I don't want to be really critical of this article as I know how annoying it is when people moan at TFA, it's unfair to the article contributors. It's a commendable effort, but I do think though that this really needs to be updated more, the 2010s coverage especially is not great. This did pass in 2008, over six years ago now. I think it would benefit from some book and archive sources if possible.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:33, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
As nobody has answered, @Loeba:. Is the coverage satisfactory in your opinion? I suppose some of the quoting and earlier coverage is fairly sound but 2010s not so much, although her roles have not been as prominent. I think it would be good to suggest what might be added and some potential sources to be listed here.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:59, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
- I agree. There is negligible coverage on her post-2010 work. This is especially disappointing because she has had a highly notable appearance in The Honourable Woman since then, and there is no information on that barring a few passing remarks. -- KRIMUK90 ✉ 15:07, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
- Five years late.. but I've extended the coverage of her post-2010 work. :P L150 16:00, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
