Adding References
editFinding references for this old article is taxing because many, many places use it as a reference however I will seek to perserve when I find the time. Have not removed the no references tag, I'll leave that to someone else. 86.186.146.248 (talk) 19:26, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

editEven more popular at the time was the song by The Beat (known in the US as The English Beat): "Stand Down Margaret". This was hugely popular and elicited standing ovations every time it was played:
"I see no joy, I see only sorrow, I see no chance of your bright new tomorrow, So stand down, Margaret, stand down please, Stand down Margaret
You tell me how can it work in this all white law(1), What a short sharp lesson(2), what a third world war, So stand down, Margaret, stand down please, Stand down Margaret
Say too much war in the city, Yeah, Say Love and Unity, the only way, the only way, Yeah"
(1) a pun on the name of the Home Secretary, William Whitelaw, who was charged with enforcing racial discrimination laws.
(2) a reference to US style "boot-camps", known at the time in the UK as "short, sharp shock"
Song?
editIt's a chant, surely. It has no tune. -- Wgsimon 01:33, 18 May 2005 (UTC)
Contested deletion
editI have contested the proposed deletion of this article but don't have the time or inclination to add sources at the moment. If anyone doubts notability then I would invite them to look at these sources. Phil Bridger (talk) 22:03, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
And again in December 2012
editIn this edit, new but apparently adept User:Saloon.cat (contributions) readded a PROD template. I removed this. User:Saloon.cat then readded it, with the edit summary "Undid revision 529047468 by Hoary (talk) obviously not notable, please discuss in the talk page if needed".
I draw User:Saloon.cat's attention to this policy page, notably:
- If anyone, including the article creator, removes a {{proposed deletion}} tag from an article, do not replace it, even if the tag was apparently removed in bad faith. This excludes removals that are clearly not an objection to deletion, such as page blanking or obvious vandalism, and tags removed by banned users may be restored. If you still believe that the article needs to be deleted, or that the article should be deleted but with discussion, list it on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion.
(Boldface in the original.) I'm about to revert the readdition of the PROD template. -- Hoary (talk) 04:47, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
