Infomercial (again)

edit

Judging by this talk page and its archive, the infomercial is clearly central to this product, as witnessed by Google results: "The Magic Bullet" blender infomercial. Most of these search results are of course from blogs, consumer advice sites, satirical sites, etc, and not from what Wikipedia calls "reliable sources". This is unsurprising given the genre and nature of the infomercial.

The article's lead mentions "television advertisements and infomercials and sold […] under the 'As seen on TV' banner." Under these circumstances, I find the recent removal of the whole section "Infomercial" with the edit summary "Removing wholly unneeded section regarding infomercial (no reliable source to support that the product is known for its infomercial)" difficult to understand. Calling it "unneeded" sounds a bit like WP:IDONTLIKEIT/Wikipedia:I just don't like it.

I understand that before matters of the guideline Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources have to be addressed, Wikipedia:Verifiability needs to be considered first. However, "this policy requires that anything challenged or likely to be challenged […] be attributed to a reliable source." In this context, the essay Wikipedia:These are not original research#Works of fiction says: "Anything that can be observed by a reasonable person simply by reading the work itself, without interpretation, is not original research."

The article's lead already establishes the importance of the infomercial; removing a section on that subject does not seem to benefit readers. I suggest to restore the section "Infomercial" (although I would welcome slimming it a bit). -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 08:44, 17 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
