Talk:Magnetic Fields (video game developer)

Latest comment: 11 years ago by 87.127.155.20 in topic External references

Is this company notable for anything besides the game Trailblazer_(video_game). Maybe details of the developer should just go to flesh out the game page. Mktacoma (talk) 18:34, 12 May 2011 (UTC) Well, I misread the article. Even with the small handful of games, unless there is something I'm missing I still don't see much in the way of notability here. Are the best links available to the internet archive and extinct websites? Aren't there any articles from main sources that can be linked to? If not, I feel this goes to the notability argument again.Mktacoma (talk) 18:41, 12 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Reasons for notability

edit

The developer is noteworthy in my oppinion as they were one of the worlds leading racing games developers in their days. The Super Cars Series and Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge Series were the best known racing games on the Amiga 500 and Atari ST platforms. Network Q RAC Rally Championship was a major breakthrough in Rally racing games as it was the first one to provide a nearly photorealistic animated interior perspective that simulated weather effects like Rain and snow and even took the windscreen wiper into simulation. Although now - over 10 years after their last release the fame seems to wear out and the younger generation obviously never played these games i think this company developed many games that in retrospective view were milestones in video game history and helped to further raise the bar in terms of realism. At least among Rally Racing game players this company is as important as Rockstar Games is for the general audience today. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MasterKyodai (talkcontribs) 14:46, 15 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

You asked for more articles to be linked to. I have added an info box (finally!) that links to some of the games. I have also linked to 2 reviews of Network Q RAC Rally Championship. If you can be more specific what kind of links or articles you want to see here i will add them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MasterKyodai (talkcontribs) 14:51, 15 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Edit: I just thought maybe i should make a seperate paragraph like "Notable Games" or so? There are many more games that are not mentioned in the article (yet).

I still don't see any external references that make this company notable. The websites are mostly dead links and there's no, say, reviews about the games or other independent articles about them. Those would be more than enough to make me happy. Mktacoma (talk) 18:57, 8 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

In reading the attached reviews, I still wonder about the notability (and would probably still vote for a delete if it came up with only the current references included) but I don't feel strongly enough anymore to push the issue. Mktacoma (talk) 19:06, 8 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

External references

Hi there,

thanks for your reply. Sorry i didn't understand that it have to be external sources, so i have collected some material. Not sure if i should all put it into the article as references, is there any guidelines about that? Of course the "official" website is dead, keep in mind that like 10-15 years ago it was no standard for all companies to have internet sites. That there is no website about Magnetic fields was actually the reason i made the wikipedia article, i did want to prevent these infos from beaing eaten up by the teeth of time, it was already hard to get it all together. And i guess that's what wikipedia is good for, right?

And i don't see why the notability is not given. Magnetic fields were one of the most influential companies back in their days, I'd have counted them to the "Lucky 10" in the 16-Bit scene. If they aren't worth mentioning i would claim that its questionable if any game developers at all should be mentioned. I think very few companies had major hits (And most with their own wikipedia article) on so many platforms from 8 to 32 bit. And one of the few companies that had nearly every game and concept copied by others. SOmeone once said that its the highest honor if someone copies your game.

Anyways, here are some Links i have collected to underline the importance of the games and their influence. I might add more when i got the time.

I think a few added (even 2-3 would add a lot of credence), favoring reviews, and favoring reviews that talk about the company (since the article is about the company and not a particular game), would be great. I don't have time now to read through all of those, but if you know of a couple that fit the bill I'd certainly be in favor of adding them. If you don't have time I'll try to get to this next week. Re: imdb: there are many video games in there, particularly ones with voiceovers or live video or anything that has actor-involvement (though not exclusively limited to those). Anybody who thinks Magnetic Fields are not notable obviously didn't play their games. 87.127.155.20 (talk) 12:26, 29 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
