Noting problems in this article, until i or someone can give full attention to them:

  1. Confuses magnetic north (a direction) with magnetic north pole (a location)
  2. "the Earth's magnetic north is actually a south magnetic pole" may be accurate (except for misusing "MN") (and at least captures the irony that either the end of the compass needle or the NMP is misleadingly named; i want to check which is which) but IMO the meaning of this is too tricky to dismiss in one sentence w/o leaving many readers non-plussed.
  3. There certainly are several different kinds of NMP (not 2 but rather i think 3 to 5), but
    1. they belong only in a more specialized article that can be linked from this one
    2. more idea needs to be given of how close together they are (my impression is concentrated within a radius of 100 mi. or less, so only specialists care)
    3. mention them all & either distinguish or point specifically to reference that does so
  4. IMO magnetic north deserves no caps, tho perhaps North Magenetic Pole is OK
  5. says compasses point at NMP when in fact they point along the (often? always?) curved field lines that terminate there (THis might be right if the core field were a simple dipole field -- IIRC false -- AND there were no local anomalies -- definitely false.)

This article should NOT be the first thing you get when you look for up "Magnetic North". 95% of visitors will be looking for the scientific term and not an obscure retro-grunge album. 67.170.34.164 17:31, 2 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree- an album by a group that nobody has heard of does NOT deserve to trump the scientific term.67.64.151.66 10:52, 9 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:MnorthHF.JPG

edit

Image:MnorthHF.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
