Copyeditor's note

edit

Entire sections belong migrated or integrated into Bhuddism, perhaps, but are not about the topic of this article, which is a Bhuddist monastery organization. The prominent wikilink to Bhuddism in the lead, at its first occurrence in the text, is adequate reference to the religion in general. Those sections and quotes should be culled and replaced with information specific to the Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery organization, like when it began, under what circumstances, its financial position perhaps, maybe a list of the member monasteries, like that. The majority of the material presented is general to Bhuddism, but not at all specific to this organization. The Suggested Readings and External Links sections, with all of their subsections, largely fall under the same situation, are way too extensive anyway, and should be pared down to information that specifically and encyclopedically belongs with this precise article topic. Good Luck. Interesting article. duff 00:43, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

How do you spell Bhuddism?

edit

I seem to understand why many people do not like this page. Open a new monastery and watch the other nearby temples protest. However there are other reasons why people do not like this tradition and it should be noted in this article. I for one do not like all of the slinky girls in their magazine...made by monks? Or to represent them? I cannot really read the articles..but why would I stay on a page with a slinky girl on it? This page needs more help. I do not see any info about the monastery. What is the vinaya standard? Is this tradition supportive of the Commentaries an Abhidhamma? (That is a major point of this movement..No?). Who ordained its leader? How old is it the tradition? Why was it started as a new tradition? How long was the leader a samanera.. of what tradition? Is the leader's vinaya good..does he use money? Did he before? What are the controversial points? Why do people dislike the tradition? Why do people like it? What publications are available in English? Why khanth Sri Lankans spelt Bhuddist therms correcthly?  :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 54.240.197.33 (talk) 04:17, 16 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Confusing Article

edit

This article is about the Buddhist Monastery, but spends a considerable space in discussing Buddhism in general. While this is OK for a book, it is not appropriate for Wikipedia. Wikipedia is a reference source where cross references can easily be made. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.171.38.2 (talk) 13:03, 18 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Major POV problems, and excess ELs

edit

The article is currently not in satisfactory shape and does not even provide verification of WP:Notability. Technically, it's a candidate for speedy deletion as it does not provide any evidence whatsoever that anyone not affiliated with the organisation is writing about it. Thus, I've tagged it "primary", as well as POV since the article makes uncited claims about the validity of the group's religious credentials which imply the correctness of this group. The article had an excessive amount of external links; ELs are not for "this is also interesting to read", it is for material directly related to the subject. If the EL is not about the Mahamevnawa movement, it doesn't belong in ELs, and that is not the place to list out dozens of articles about Buddhist theory from Mahamevnawa sites. So I cleaned those out, and somebody will have to track down some footnotes which are independent, reliable, and substantive to justify the article. Proposed merge of Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thero with Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery

edit

Fails WP:SIGCOV and does not appear to meet WP:GNG on its own. However, the Monastery has been discussed with regard to its founder, Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thero (see, e.g., Figures of Buddhist Modernity in Asia, p. 30, at Google Books), and thus is notable in the context of his article per WP:INHERITORG. voorts (talk/contributions) 17:19, 30 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Oppose, given independent notability through other works, including published work as a translator and foundation of Shraddha TV. Klbrain (talk) 15:04, 25 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Closing, given the uncontested objection with no support. Klbrain (talk) 13:22, 7 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
