Is it a cathedral?
editIn general, the word cathedral is used in English in two different senses. The more formal sense is a "principal church of a bishop's diocese, containing the episcopal throne". A more informal use of the word is "large, important church". Is the "Main Cathedral of the Russian Armed Forces" a cathedral in the formal sense? Or only in the sense of a "large and important church"? The Russian word for it seems to be храм, which doesn't necessarily mean that it's the seat of a bishop. Gabbe (talk) 07:20, 20 June 2020 (UTC)
- It was granted the status "Patriarchal Cathedral", which is a very high status, there is only a couple of them (for example Novocherkassk Cathedral).[1]--User:Tomcat7 (talk) 08:48, 20 June 2020 (UTC)
- Furthermore, regardless of the technical definition, the vast majority of English sources refer to it as a cathedral, so as per WP:COMMONAME the article should reflect that. Zoozaz1 (talk) 18:05, 20 June 2020 (UTC)
- WP:COMMONAME says that if the term "cathedral" is inaccurate, that would be a good reason not to title it so, even if that is more common. Note, however, that I haven't suggested that this article be renamed. I am merely curious over whether the church is actually a cathedral in the formal sense. Gabbe (talk) 17:25, 22 June 2020 (UTC)
Look, even in Russian it is literally "main temple". This is what it is.Longbowman (talk) 04:37, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
- Храм may mean both temple and church. But in this case this building is definitely a Christian church, not a non-Christian temple.--User:Tomcat7 (talk) 08:13, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
What is the height of the dome inside? Is there detailed information about the main parameters of size of the cathedral?
editIs there any information about the internal height (from the floor to the ceiling) of the main dome of the cathedral?
Is there any information about the area (interior and exterior) of the cathedral in square meters? Is this cathedral larger by area than Christ the Savior Cathedral in Moscow?
Is there information about the volume (internal) of this cathedral?
Is there information about the capacity (number of people able to stand inside) of this cathedral? Puldin (talk) 16:43, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
