Confusion of this......
editSeriously.Me is confused.I see this and think "Whoa. What the......"And I click.Which adds to the confusion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.8.238.73 (talk) 18:44, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
- Actually, I don't understand why you're confused. --Chiya92 13:28, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
It is so confusing. Who plays them? IDK It does NOT give us any info — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.128.249.161 (talk) 23:51, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
- No actor information has been released that I'm aware of. Yes, it is confusing, as they should be into production by now. But, what is in the article is literally all the information we know at this point. — Huntster (t @ c) 01:40, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
7/27/2013 - Just watched the first couple episodes. I fail to see how this is a sequel or a spin-off of the original. If it was set in the past, ok, but its not... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.56.131.99 (talk) 02:33, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
- Why would being set in the past matter? It is not a sequel, but is a spin-off, which simply means that the show has elements directly relating to the previous show. I think the whole mermaid and moon pool on Mako Island is a fairly strong tie. :) — Huntster (t @ c) 06:22, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
Will "Mako Mermaids" air on Nickelodeon in the United States?
editWill Mako Mermaids air on Nickelodeon in the United States anytime soon? Please let me know. This is important. Thank you. AdamDeanHall (talk) 14:10, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
- As far as I know, not so soon, since it has to air in Australia first. --Chiya92 14:34, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
- It's actually going to air in the U.S. on Disney Channel starting January 18th. I can't really find an official source, but they're airing commercials, and it should show up here (and while not very professional, it is official) by tomorrow. Bigpboy (talk) 20:56, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
Answer: No, most likely not, its on youtube though! Check it out! :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.153.176.183 (talk) 07:07, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
The name of the program
edit"Mako: Island of Secrets" is the Australian title for this program - while "Mako Mermaids" is the International title for the program. It is interesting that the Wikipedia page for the program is listed under the International title instead of under its Australian title. Does anyone know the reason for this? Figaro (talk) 07:52, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
- Move logs show that the article was moved from Mako: Island of Secrets to here on 9 May 2012 with the only explanation being that it was a "new title". On 8 August 2012 it was moved to Secret of Mako Island because "Production company changed series name". On 11 March 2013 it was moved back here because "the trailer shows its name was "Mako Mermaids"". With it now airing as "Mako: Island of Secrets" it really should be moved back there. --AussieLegend (✉) 09:16, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
- Yep, I've moved it back. It's has a most confused title history. — Huntster (t @ c) 19:56, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
This show is named wrong
editEvery time I change this page it get changed back. The show is not called Mako Mermaids: Island of Secrets. It's called Mako Mermaids: An H2O Adventure. I saw the epsiodes on Netflix and that's what it says. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GermanDude100 (talk • contribs) 03:19, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
- That's simply how Netflix has titled it. It is internationally advertised as simply "Mako Mermaids". I see no reason to append a byline just for Netflix. — Huntster (t @ c) 03:29, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
- I've already explained to GermanDude100 on my talk page that Mako Mermaids is the international title and Mako: Island of Secrets is the name in the country of origin.[1] --AussieLegend (✉) 09:39, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
Netflix - internet exclusive
editRegarding the change I made to reference that the show is now available on Watchever. I felt it was worth noting because, in part, it means that Netflix no longer has exclusive Internet rights. Plus Watchever provides the show in both English and German, hence the relevance for here. (I'm a brit in Germany, watching the show in English) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.167.244.20 (talk) 20:39, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

Mako: Island of Secrets → Mako Mermaids: An H2O Adventure – I saw the full title of the show while watching the video on YouTube. AdamDeanHall (talk) 18:06, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose. That is the international release title (well, that and just Mako Mermaids, it seems to vary). The original Australian title is Mako: Island of Secrets, as the article mentions. We usually use the home country's titling for television articles. — Huntster (t @ c) 18:21, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose - This has previously been discussed earlier on the page. As Hunster has said, Mako: Island of Secrets is the title in the country of origin, so the article should be where it is now. --AussieLegend (✉) 01:32, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose - Mako: Island of Secrets is the title in Australia, the country of origin for the television series, therefore the title should remain as it is now. Figaro (talk) 09:42, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
Episodes of Mako: Island of Secrets
editIt's been suggested that you should split the episode section of Mako: Island of Secrets to List of Mako: Island of Secrets episodes, since the show has been renewed for a second season. AdamDeanHall (talk) 18:28, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
- Done. — Huntster (t @ c) 22:39, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
- @Huntster: This was not done with the proper WP:SPLIT procedure. I'm not sure what to do about it now, though. nyuszika7h (talk) 10:37, 5 September 2015 (UTC)
Available on DVD
editThere is a possibility that Mako: Island of Secrets might, just might, be available on DVD in the United States. AdamDeanHall (talk) 14:24, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
Labeling Season 2B?
editHow should this be done? Netflix's releases for May just came up, and the other 13 episodes of season 2 are listed as May 29th release... only they'll be released as Season 3.
So do we label them as Season 3, as Netflix, an official distributor labels them as such, and simply label them as production codes 214-226, or do we label them as season 2, with an addendum stating Netflix released them as a third season?
Obviously we have a few weeks, but figure getting a collective agreement on what to do now is better. 99.162.156.148 (talk) 12:10, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
- Netflix is, very simply, wrong on this. The production company and distributor consider them part of series two, so we'll consider them part of series two. — Huntster (t @ c) 20:59, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
On Netflix here in the U.S., in season 3 of Mako Mermaid, the Chinese mermaids, never appeared. Season 2 and season 3 only have 13 episodes to them each. Why is that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 164.58.112.33 (talk) 07:01, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
- See before your question. --Chiya92 08:40, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
- What Netflix calls "season 3" is actually the second half of season 2. You can see the production codes in the end credits. nyuszika7h (talk) 18:19, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
There have been a couple of IPs making recent edits to the article who are contending that there are four seasons to the series, as dictated by how Netflix has them numbered, and makes claim about the fact that it's a Netflix original means their numbering of seasons is the correct way. (Three edits by one user, read their edit summaries [2][3][4])(another IP's edit) The way the seasons (series) are numbered here has been decided for awhile, per what is above, but with these latest edits, it needs to be made crystal clear what has been decided. MPFitz1968 (talk) 18:34, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
- To be crystal clear, while the show may be a Netflix Original for the international audience, it is an Australian show and the Australian production company considers there to be three series. It is irrelevant how Netflix terms the series. — Huntster (t @ c) 01:20, 1 June 2017 (UTC)

Spin-Off??
editBriefly mentioned above (in 2013) (by someone else)… I’m not comfortable with it being called a “spin-off”.
The mermaids have a different origin; there’s no reference to the H₂O series; and all the characters are different (except a guest appearance in Season3). But it is set in the same “universe”, with similar plot, and created by the same people. And I can’t think of a better term than “spin-off”... so I guess it’s me that has to change.
How about “slide-off”?
Or re-imagining, re-inventing, re-creating?? Or a “re-quel”! MBG02 (talk) 08:48, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
- It's whatever sources describe it as being. I haven't looked at that in a while, but IIRC sourcing did call it a "spinoff". --IJBall (contribs • talk) 15:56, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
- I can't imagine not calling it a spin-off, considering it is in full continuity and in time sequence. I would only take issue if it were called a sequel or something. — Huntster (t @ c) 22:13, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
- The girls in the first show are human, and live as human until magically becoming mermaids at circa 16 yrs. The girls in the second were born as mermaids, and their pod has been in the sea forever; they first become “legged” at circa 16. (Their pod kicks them out very unfairly!)
- I should have known there’d be a Wiki article Spin-off (media). But, I think, every example (except this show) has characters from the to-be-spun-off show appearing in the source show.
- And, I think, every spun-off show references the source show – although I don’t recall Mork going back to, or talking about, Happy Days.
- Nixie was my favourite. MBG02 (talk) 09:40, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
characters box
editThis show could use a characters box for star billing. AngusW🐶🐶F (bark • sniff) 20:39, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
- @AngusWOOF: Could you give an example of what you mean? Thanks. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 21:27, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
- IJBall, was thinking of something like Dani's Castle#Cast but as there are only 3 series worth, it's optional. AngusW🐶🐶F (bark • sniff) 00:14, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- Oh, you mean a cast table?! – Oh, yeah, I am not in favor of those for shows that only run for 3 seasons. (Even for shows that only run 4 seasons they're questionable...) --IJBall (contribs • talk) 00:16, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
