Help with source

edit

I would like to read the article cited in an earlier version of this page, Cañon J, Checa ML, Carleos C, Vega-Pla JL, Vallejo M, Dunner S |title=The genetic structure of Spanish Celtic horse breeds inferred from microsatellite data |journal=Anim. Genet. |volume=31 |issue=1 |pages=39–48 |year=2000 |month=February |pmid=10690360|url=, but don't have Athens log-in at present. Could some kind soul help?

Balearic Pony?

edit

Is there a Balearic Pony? The Mallorquín averages 1.61 m, according to the Spanish government. Swedish Wikipedia has this page on a Balearic pony 1.45 m tall. My Swedish is a bit rusty. Can anyone help?

Pitke speaks some Swedish and may be able to help. Also keep in mind that a breed may change a bit if removed from its native land. On top of that, as in the case of, for example, the Icelandic horse, there may be considerable disagreement over whether to call an animal a horse or a pony. On wiki, we tend to go with whatever the leading breed experts prefer, though if there is a legitimate controversy, we will "teach the controversy" too, like the Slovenia vs. Austria thing with the Lipizzan. (Slovenia actually filed a lawsuit with the EU wanting to be the only country that could use the name "Lipizzan." I believe they lost). Montanabw(talk) 18:52, 6 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
Might this sort of stuff not seem just a tad offensive to people from those countries who happen by here? Personally, I find this kind of inter-national argumentation tedious and unpleasant, as I have already had reason to mention. As is the idea of teaching anyone controversy.
Back to the Malloquín: it's in Mallorca, its native land, so that one won't fly. I was hoping to attract an answer from someone who either knows Swedish, or knows something about the subject, two descriptions that definitely don't fit me, but may well fit Pitke.

Unfortunately, "teaching the controversy" is often necessary here on Wikipedia, whether you find it tedious or not. European breeds often seem to attract much of the controversy, for some reason, although American breeds do it too. When there is a legitimate disagreement between two sides, Wikipedia has to present both - it cannot pick on side or the other. Such is the case with Andalusian horse, which I have taken through FAC despite a multiple lawsuit-inducing argument between multiple breed registries as to exactly what the breed is called and how pure it is. We cannot just say that one side or the other is correct, we have to explain both sides, discuss the lawsuit and leave it up to the reader to draw a conclusion. Anything else is our opinion, which cannot be used. Dana boomer (talk) 19:28, 6 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
