Removal of information about LGBT atmosphere

edit

An unregistered editor is insisting that information about Campus Pride's inclusion of this institution in its list of "The Absolute Worst, Most Unsafe Campuses For LGBTQ Youth." This editor's edit summaries have included "Prior changes were based on an unreliable source connected to one single moral stance. Unfair accusations against the university." and "The list described is based on opinion, not fact." A source is, of course, reliable for information about or generated by that source. There is nothing wrong at all with a source having a "moral stance" or having an opinion. It appears that this is being removed because the editor either disagrees with the source or believes that it's not acceptable have negative information about the university in the article. Both reasons are unacceptable for omitting relevant information from an article. ElKevbo (talk) 02:34, 8 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

I'm the one who originally added this information and agree with ElKevbo. It's relevant information from a well-known organization involved with LGBTQ issues in higher education. Considering the Malone's own "moral stance" is what set the chain of events off leading to it being included on the list, it seems curious that the anonymous editor wants to use that same reason for excluding mention of this list. I agree – the objection that this information is "unfair" or "connected to a single moral stance" is no objection at all. Per WP:VOICE, the inclusion of Malone University on this list should be attributed to Campus Pride and stated neutrally, but not omitted just because it is opinion. However, in conversation with some other editors, doubts about the WP:NOTABILITY of inclusion in the list arose. Thoughts? Jno.skinner (talk) 16:59, 8 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
I recommend opening a broader discussion at WT:UNI. (And WP:DUE would probably be the policy in question; WP:NOTABILITY only determines if a subject merits its own dedicated article and does not govern the contents of articles.) ElKevbo (talk) 21:15, 8 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Based on this discussion and the lack of any objections, I have restored this material. ElKevbo (talk) 20:53, 25 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
