Talk:Mamba

Hi I do not know how but id like the Mamba link not to lead streight to the Black Mamba. This is misleading. If one wrote cobra you would not automaticlay be linked to the king cobra or in the case of deer automatically to the Reindeer. There should be a menue where one of the three mamba links could be chosen. (Jimsim 18:39, 3 November 2005 (UTC))Reply

Length

edit

The given source is something vague about the maximum length of this animal. "According to some reports they may grow on exception to 4.5 metres (14.7 feet). Black mambas that reach this size are obviously rare and verifiable data is actually hard to track down." This article evolved this to: "The black mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis) is the largest venomous snake in Africa, with an average length around 8 feet (2.5 m), but may grow to over 14 feet (4.5 m)."

In my opinion facts and fictions are mixed up and this is not the way encyclopedias should work.

yeah, and Black Mamba is the nickname of Kobe Bryant (NBA superstar)

Speed

edit

The only source I found (quick and dirty in Google) is in german only: http://www.schlangenforum.at/aa_buch/biologie/bewegung/bewegung.htm Measured speed "11 km/h for 43 meters". 20 km/h doesn't sound imaginable to me. But I'm not an expert in serpents.

"Green Mamba" Redirect

edit

Why does "green mamba" redirect to this article, rather than to eastern green mamba or western green mamba? 75.83.199.186 (talk) 19:23, 12 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Contradiction

edit

The Black mamba article says

It is extremely aggressive, to the extent that it chases people and horses that enter its territory.

referencing http://www.sodahead.com/question/25053/comment/410155/ but <sarcasm>I don't know how reliable that reference is</sarcasm>. Anyway, either that article or this one should be fixed. --Slashme (talk) 14:34, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

This has been resolved and properly sourced. - AyaK (talk) 16:47, 3 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ranges

edit

The ranges of D. angusticeps and D. jamesoni have been confused (see respective articles). I have made corrections in line with these specific articles. Ptilinopus (talk) 23:08, 3 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
