Power station site

Re: "The Whitworth Street station was opened in 1894. It was located on the banks of the Rochdale Canal, between the canal and Oxford Road railway station." Could this be clarified as there does not seem space for much between the railway viaduct, the road and the hospital which occupied a site on the corner of Oxford Street from ca. 1904 until it was closed and became a car park. The Rochdale Canal is north of the hospital site while the River Medlock runs east to west a short distance to the south of the railway station. 1899 is given as the opening date for Whitworth Street.--Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 15:15, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

The pumping station was next to the hospital. If you have a look at old-maps.co.uk, and enter 383980 and 397501 into the coordinate boxes, then pick the 1922 1:2500 map, for instance, you can see it clearly. Bob1960evens (talk) 11:58, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
