Removed redirect
editI have removed the redirect from this talk page to Talk:Mandarin (linguistics) so that questions such as the one below may be asked about the disambiguation page, and other Mandarin topics not related to the lanuage. Flibirigit 19:47, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
The Mandarin (restaurant)
editI cannot find an article on Wikipedia for The Mandarin (restaurant). Does anyone know if one exists. Also, I cannot find it on the disambiguation page. Flibirigit 21:01, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Is it sufficiently often misspelled without the first "n" to warrant a redirect? How will people ever become aware they've misspelled it if they manage to link it to the right article anyway? -- JackofOz (talk) 22:58, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
What does it mean?
editIs there an actual meaning to the word or is it just randomly tacked on as an identifier? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.10.222.30 (talk) 13:32, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Italics
edit- I find it would be helpful for readers if the disambiguation page points out the relationships between the terms "Modern Standard Mandarin", "Mandarin" and "Standard Chinese", as these terms deserve to be mentioned on their own right and yet they could confusingly point to same thing.
- After reading MOS:ITAL#Emphasis, I think it is valid to emphasize the first two terms by italics on this circumstance. I also find WP:MOSDAB have specific limitations on italicization on introductory lines and links, which may not apply to this circumstance.

- Yes it is very confusing to search for Mandarin and discover that China's official language has practically no native speakers. More explanation needed for the novice.169.231.23.59 (talk) 01:39, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
A matter of emphasis
editI came here looking for the article about the article about the bureaucratic office by this name, & failed to find it buried near the bottom. (I managed to find it linked in the article about the language.) Since it is the original meaning of this word, & from whence all these other terms are known, wouldn't it be more useful to the reader to put this link at the top? -- llywrch (talk) 20:17, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
- It used to be that way.[1] There also too many MOS:DABNOENTRYs, e.g. the Clothing section, making it harder to find the right "Mandarin". Kanguole 21:20, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
