I am an attorney representing Manhattan College. A statement contained within this article: "In late 2023 and early 2024, Manhattan College eliminated more than twenty programs and terminated over 25% of faculty due to persistent declining enrollment and increasing structural deficits. In late January, faculty voted "no confidence" in the university's president.[5] Just from 2020 to 2024, enrollment at Manhattan College decreased by over 30%.[6] Manhattan College fired the nuns who worked at the college and eliminated three of the college's six schools and many departments and courses.[7]" is factually incorrect. The school did not terminate 25% of faculty and its colleges were merged and not eliminated. https://mcquad.org/2023/11/07/the-new-fate-of-mc-6-schools-become-3/
Previous attempts to correct these misstatements were removed/reversed by editors. Please advise as to how we can correct this. Aronneburger (talk) 15:28, 2 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for opening this discussion - this is exactly how we try to approach issues when editors have a conflict of interest with the subject of an article. I'm happy to look into this (but I can't promise that I'll agree with your request and interpret things the same way that you do!).
But I also recommend reading our Wikipedia:No legal threats policy. I'm not saying that you've violated the policy by making a legal threat. But you should be aware that legal threats are not allowed and will result in a block unless the threats are withdrawn. As an attorney, I am sure that you understand why this policy exists! Hi. For clarification - this is not a legal threat. I am merely stating what my role as a representative of the College is for full transparency, and trying to correct the information on this page for them, as it is incorrect. Thank you for looking into this and please advise what other information you may need. Aronneburger (talk) 00:18, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I made some edits to the article but it looks like that paragraph is in line with the cited sources. If I'm missing something, please let me know! ElKevbo (talk) 00:42, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi - the statement "In late 2023 and early 2024, Manhattan College eliminated more than twenty programs and terminated over 25% of faculty" - remains inaccurate. Manhattan College did not eliminate these programs - they are still listed with the NYSED Department of Education Inventory of Registered Programs (https://www2.nysed.gov/heds/IRPSL1.html - search for "Manhattan College") Further, only 19 faculty members were terminated (23 if reappointment notices are counted). https://mcquad.org/2024/01/24/tenured-professors-fired-in-sweeping-layoffs/
Please let me know if more information is needed and thank you for your help and attention to this. We just want to ensure this article is accurate. Aronneburger (talk) 15:18, 9 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
The information still appears to accurately reflect the cited sources. I am wary of citing something like the NYSED Department of Education Inventory of Registered Programs over a reliable news article given the lag that such sources typically have. And the source that you also explicitly cite explicitly says that over 25% of faculty were terminated. If you have a more recent or up-to-date source, please share it.
