Smith Family
editI have altered the story of Seth Raynor's unilateral rechristening of the Railway station to delete the suggestion he was motivated as a Patriot by resentment of the Smith family. The source cited for this story - Newsday.com - does not say this. The statement also defies commonsense as the "Tangier" Smith family were patriots, not loyalists (the heir to the Manor, General John Smith served with distinction in the Revolutionary army). If the story is history (and it sounds like romantic folk tale), perhaps Raynor did resent the Smiths, but this would seem separate from his distaste for the English Crown and, besides, there is no source citation to support such a speculation listed here. Seth Raynor
editSeth Raynor (1815-1899), the town's longtime (40 years) LIRR station agent who changed the name of the train stop to "Manor", subsequently, emended to Manorville, was born 32 years after the end of the Revolutionary War and could not have been a patriot during the Revolutionary War, as the article says. This romantic tale is repeated elsewhere and has no basis in fact. 71.183.15.82 (talk) 23:42, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
