"Stages" is Off-Topic

I don't think the section labelled "Stages" is appropriate. It is really a discussion of Software Testing, not Manual Testing. For example Unit Testing is certainly not manual testing. Four "steps" of manual testing are given in the prior section, and this seems to contradict the "stages" discussion. Morrillonline (talk) 01:05, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Wordmouse (talk) 16:48, 1 October 2015 (UTC) --Not quite. I find this section relevant to Manual Testing process. Also, the term Unit Testing is often used within manual testing discipline. In Manual Testing context, it refers to 'test a newly developed module/function in isolated environment'. As long as the stakeholders call it a 'Unit' (whatever that is), testing such small part of a product can be regarded as Unit Testing. The use of such term could vary from business to business. Maybe adding explanation for both 'technical' unit testing vs 'manual' unit testing could clarify the situation? In the real world, Unit Testing is often used within Manual Testing.

"Test" or "Testing"

Testing is a gerund. A gerund should not be used if a relevant noun based on the same verb already exists. Is "Manual testing" even a valid concept?

I do not think that this conception of testing is helpful. An analogy is describing programming or music making as 'manual' or 'automated'. Every profession uses tools. Software testers use tools, one of which can involve programming automated checks. Testers also use and write other tools to help them log data, generate test, etc. Creating tooling is a subset of testing. Ephemeralwaves (talk) 11:16, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

Feel free to debate the term in an appropriate forum. This is not it. The common term for testing done without the use of an automation framework executing the bulk of the testing is "manual testing". Walter Görlitz (talk) 18:22, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
