I agree. In Latin America and Tanzania, the vaccine had decent results, although the results were mixed elsewhere. I agree that we should cite sources on the good and bad aspects of his research. Mr. Know-It-All 02:28, 14 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think that it is important to confirm (include links to official sources) that he received a PhD degree from Rockefeller University. An international scientific journal states that he did postdoctoral studies at Rockefeller University, which is quite different. http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/ar700120t — Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.80.73.246 (talk) 23:21, 7 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have to disagree regarding your comment about lack of effectiveness in Africa. A comprehensive Cochrane review was published in 2009, with the conclusion that Spf99 is not recommended for prophylaxis of malaria (see http://www.thecochranelibrary.com/userfiles/ccoch/file/CD005966.pdf). It may be useful to include this reference. However, I do not believe at all that his research is fraudulent and he has not shown any interest for profit. The "claims" described in the wikipedia article refer to the fact some individuals believed his institute of immunology at Hospital San Juan de Dios was the causative of this hospital's closure. However, it has been proven many other factors played a crucial role, including but not limited to poor administration oversight, overinflated benefits for employees and lack of budgetary/financial analysis in a charity private/public mixed hospital. He has published in many high impact factor journals (see pubmed and google scholar). Also, his many years of research have been fruitful in developing a system for synthetic vaccines, which has recently been published in the Chemical Reviews journal (cited in the wikipedia article itself). -Arturo Loaiza-Bonilla, M.D.
