Manukau City

edit

Because there is no other place in the world (or in Wikipedia) called Manukau, the main article should be just "Manukau", so I moved it here and made the old page a redirect. Neonumbers 08:43, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Shouldn't the article be swapped back with Manukau City? OFFICIAL name is Manukau City, and this article itself calls it Manukau City in the lead and in the infobox. 222.153.17.84 03:43, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Absolutely agree, official name is Manukau CITY, old name was just "Manukau", even if there's only one place in the world called Manukau shouldn't the article be it's official title? Manukau City. --HannahSamuels 06:34, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

agree The official name is Manukau City and therefore the article should be called as such --Nengscoz416 21:48, 7 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Part of Auckland

edit

I don't see justification for the inclusion of the following: While officially described as being a city unto itself, Manukau is a de facto part of the city of Auckland, there not being any clear divisions between Manukau and the rest of the city other than administrative boundaries and some harbour inlets.

Manukau is not a de facto part of Auckland City. Auckland is a city as is Manukau. Manukau is part of the Auckland metropolitan area, so in essence it is part of the greater Auckland conurbation, and it is part of the Auckland region. Yet, Manukau is a city in every sense of the word. Many cities in the world are not separate entities divided from others by country, lakes, mountains, etc. In the United States, many cities have grown into each other and are separated only by divisions of streets or parks. Some could justify this in that Manukau city was created in the 1980s local body restructuring, but as an independent Manukau city was created at this time, that must be accepted as fact. For this reason, I have removed the inclusion. Enzedbrit 00:38, 9 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Location

edit

A user keeps editing the article pointing out that the location is wrong. The correct location, as identified using Google Earth is latitude 36°59'32.23"S, longitude 174°52'45.04"E.--Mendors 05:01, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Size

edit

When I was living in NZ (1996-2008) the received wisdom was that Manukau City was the largest municipality in the world by area. I never saw this from any official source but if it's true, it's worth mentioning in the historical info at the top. Can anyone verify? Cathi M (talk) 13:55, 3 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
